Camino Guidebooks (Village to Village)
Time of past OR future Camino
Francés, Finisterre, Portugués, Norte, Primitivo, Inglés
Hi Forum Friends,

We've just published a brand new guidebook to the Camino Francés and Finisterre, hot off the press today! My husband and I work with pilgrimage hiking trails in the Middle East and have been branching out to walk and learn about other pilgrimage trails around the world. We have a small publishing house, Village to Village Press, which specializes in pilgrimage routes and responsible travel.

The guidebook features topographical maps, very thorough accommodations information, and loads of practical information. We will post updates on the companion website, http://www.hikingthecamino.com.

The book is available on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. We also offer direct sales on our website with free shipping to North America, Europe, and South Africa. http://www.caminoguidebook.com

Don't want to spam you with an advert, but thought there would be some general interest. If you have interest in receiving a free copy to do a blog review, please feel free to PM me. Hope it is helpful for the growing number of English-speaking pilgrims.

Best regards and buen camino,
Anna

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
WOOOW, great work!!!!!!!!!!!

I was using Brierley, but yours sure look very handy from what I saw at example chapter. I would really re-consider about a change of a guide-book if doing CF again :) Also very useful addition of Camino Finisterre, bravo! If you'll need some quality photos for possible next editions feel free to contact me.

Ultreia!

Anna, thank you for letting us know of this new resource. Do you mind if I ask you what experience you and/or your husband have had in walking the Camino Frances and Finisterre?

Would you consider an ebook version? Not sure if the maps would work on a low resolution Kindle but like everybody I'm looking to cut my ounces. At this point I'm leaning towards carrying Brierley's map only edition and no guidebook.

Apart from a few editing needs, it should be mentioned that this work addresses the North American market (visitors).

Hi All,

Thanks for helpful comments! We are working on an e-version, but it is difficult to translate to Kindle as it has many photos and maps, and symbols which rely on color. Personally, I love e-books, but still prefer guidebooks in hard copy as they are easier to flip through, write comments on, etc. Works better on iPad or other color, touchscreen tablets which allow for zooming and quicker navigation. Will keep you posted when the e-version is ready.

Regarding lbpierce's question about experience, we have hiked the Camino Francés and Camino Finisterre numerous times and also the Camino del Norte once. My husband has lead educational walks on the Finisterre route.

Our first guidebook, published in 2010, was Hiking the Jesus Trail, a guide to hiking in the Galilee region of Israel with an emphasis on New Testament sites. We developed a 4-day route from Nazareth to Capernaum, as well as creating resources for networked routes.

We have done consulting and resource-production for other pilgrimage routes and have a lot of passion for the topic. :)

The sample chapter looks very good...lots of good info...easy to figure out the symbols. Can you tell me how many pages it is and the weight ? Will you be updating it yearly ?
Great job !

I purchased your guide and am looking forward to getting it. Right now my plan is to scan it to PDF page by page and put it on my iPAd mini to cut down on weight. If there is an iPAd version available, I'd love to hear about it before the tedious task begins.........

Looks like an excellent book!

Anna, your web site says the book takes 1-2 weeks to ship from Jerusalem. I leave in exactly two weeks, on May 18th. What are my options for expedited shipping to the USA? If Amazon starts shipping it soon, that may be my best option actually since I already get free 2-day shipping as a Prime member. Have they given you a time estimate yet?

Mmc_56: According to the web site, the book is 320 pages and weighs 14oz / 398g. The dimensions are 7 x 4.95 x 0.55 inches or 17.8 x 12.6 x 1.4 cm. It also already has updates available.

Thanks, russelg99, for posting the weight information, I've sent you a private message about shipping. :)

For those who asked about an e-version, we are working on one but don't have a firm estimate right now of when it will be available. With the limitations of the Kindle format, we have to use a more simple page layout so some of the formatting that we designed to be intuitive and straightforward in the print edition will be lost a bit in the Kindle, but of course for many the weight will be more important. :)

The maps and diagrams work best with a color tablet, like an iPad or Kindle Fire, but we are working to make sure a regular black and white Kindle edition will still be functional.

Thanks for all your kind words. We are mailing out direct orders daily and Amazon should have the item in stock in about 1 week.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I'm happy to report that the book is now available in the Amazon USA store. Mine just shipped, and will be arriving tomorrow -- two days before I leave for Paris. :)

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
