New guide through Basque country

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

ruta interior

Howdy. Just looked up the new Ruta Interior from Irun through Basque country. The online brochure said there weren't many albergues yet, and that many of the casa rurales and hotels were off the pilgrim path, but accesible within a few kilometers. After a long day, a "few kilometers" may be toooo much. Anybody tried out that route yet? Sounds interesting, tunnels and all. Is it over-industrialized? How does one connect to the French route after the etapas end for the interior route? Seems like it would be somewhere around Santodomingo de la Calzada. Any info mightily appreciated. Peace. Stellar

Roman Roads

An interesting site to find out about the restoration of Roman roads in the mediterranean Region - including France, Spain and Portugal is:

Stellar:

I walked this route in 2011. I think is is a great option to starting in SJPdP. The route starts much more gently than the Frances. No real steep climb until Zegema. Here you have an 1100 meter climb to the tunnel. The tunnel itself is less than 100 meters. Then a nice walk through farmland and vineyards.

There are two options on where you intersect the Camino Frances. Either Santa Domingo de Calzada or Burgos. I recommend SDdC so you can stay in Granon on the Frances.

This route is sparsely traveled. I never had to leave the Pilgrim path to find accommodations. There were Albergues, pensions or Casa Rurals on the route.

I recommend you check out the Thread on the Vasco/Tunnel route for more information.

Ultreya,
Joe
