New leaflet for route in El Bierzo

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Hi, Peter,

Thanks for posting this article. The mention of "101 km peregrinos" at the end of the article led me to search for their website, http://www.101peregrinos.com/ and it looks like this is a group that is going to sponsor a 24 hour event for 101 kms on the Camino, and it will be on the Camino de Invierno. It's going to start and end in Ponferrada, and is set for May 8. The route appears to remain in the "tierras bercianas," meaning, I suppose, in the region of El Bierzo, but it looks like it goes as far as the Sil River.

You can sign up to do it on mountain bike, on foot, or as a "duathlon," which wikipedia tells me is a combination of foot-bike-foot.

For people considering this Camino under less pressured conditions, some of the website is devoted to promoting the Bierzo area and there are some nice clips of the region generally (which includes some familiar pictures of the church at Villafranca del Bierzo, Ponferrada's castle, and other spots on the Camino Frances, but also has some dedicated to the part of Bierzo on the Camino de Invierno, particularly the mountainous area around Las Medulas). http://www.101peregrinos.com/index.php? ... &Itemid=50

The article you posted said that 500 people had already signed up to do it, so maybe May 8 would not be a good time to be walking on the Camino de Invierno. But I assume it will also have the effect of bringing more people to this camino. Thanks again, Laurie

We’re scoping out accommodation on the Invierno, and @C clearly noticed that Pensión As Viñas is on booking. There is an annotation “new to booking.” Many of us stayed there before the albergue...
