Read. Read lots. Here is a good place to start:

which is a bit overwhelming. Start in the obvious place, Google, and look for resources online. Research the towns and cities along the way, learn about Spanish history and if you can, get hold of a guidebook such as Brierley or Cicerone just to read, not necessarily take with you. Slowly but surely, build up a mental idea of what and where the camino is, and visit the forum because it has a lot of advice and information.

You live in California, so there may be a camino supporters' group nearby, but joining the American Pilgrims on the Camino association is a good idea anyway.

Good luck, and if you have any specific questions, that is what the forum is here for!

Good, you have lots of time. Your Camino has already begun. At this point the most important thing is to start walking regularly, and find a shoe/sock combination that won't give you blisters. No special shoe is required, but you may need to start dating alternative footwear if the shoes you wear now are not appropriate.

Like Rick says, let the testing begin....
...and contemplate how you will invest in time enough to do the entire CF or will you do it in instalments.
The Francés is just over a month, unless you are an absolute long distance walker..
Are you btw jobs that will not be a problem.

Welcome! I'm a relative newbie here too. Camino Frances in May 2024. I've been watching videos on YouTube. I've seen various types of pilgrims - from 100% albergue stays and carrying your own gear, to 100% boutique accommodation with bag transfer service and luxury food. Some people skip sections for various reasons, and some start in various places. Anyway, the videos helped me form ideas about the sort of experience I would be wanting. I've also found the resource section on this forum very helpful. I've been saving links to helpful information in my favourites.
