Hi all, just completed the 1st day, Irun to San Sebastian, just a word of warning, there's a surfing thing going on at the moment, so accommodation is hard to find, got to albergue la sirena to find it full, luckily the helpful staff rung around & found 3 beds in Koisi hostel, which is nice, clean, with great showers, and has a bar. We've had to hunt around for the next few days, when at Deba we're going to try the municipal albergue, or can anyone recommend another......

When I walked the Norte in July 2018 there were "surfing things" happening in towns all along the way. It's one of the reasons why accommodations are more expensive on the Norte in summer months.
On fact the only albergue in Ribadesella was completely booked by a surf school.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I walked Del Norte during hot August 2019, yes lots of surfing and very pack on weekends!!! whatever you do don't stay at the following albergues. the municipal at Castro Urdiales and the one in Santander "santos martires" its really a martirio, my reasons. hot , dirty and not enough beds and the hospitaleros not the most amables. a bit rude. also after santillana del mar albergues were packed i walked 42K to get a bed at Serdio. enjoy your camino!!! I'll be walking the primitivo in september!!

I stayed at municipal albergue which is Station House at Deba railroad station last April 2022. I like there.
They will open at 12:00PM, if you arrive around noon, you need to to go Tourist Information office for registration, and they will give you a code number for the door. The receptionist at the albergue may come around 1:00 PM; if you arrive there after 1:00PM, the albergue door will be opened, so you can just get into the albergue. Albergue is clean and nice; I think they have 56 beds.

I don't know of any other places in Deba, but Albergue Izarbide is another 5km in Ibiri. If you are going to stay there, reserve ahead because after Ibiri there doesn't seem to be anything until Markina. Their website has the number to reserve: https://izarbideaterpetxea.wixsite.com/izarbide/en
I stayed there twice very nice place, I believe in 2018 when I stayed there I decided to walk the road instead of the trail so I could get a decent coffee and enjoy the walk to the next pace. Glad I did very peaceful and finally met up with the group I da been walking with. Oh just to mention the supper there is fabulous plenty of good food.

I use Alltrails a lot here in the US, in Iceland, on the Via Podiensis and a bit on the CF. Will it be useful on the Norte? For example, people here say the "warm up" from Biarritz to Irun (or...
Last May I walked the first part of the Norte in the opposite direction, from Santander to Irun. Since I only had two weeks and couldn't reach Santiago anyway, I wanted to swim against the tide...
Tomorrow I fly to Bilbao to start my 5th stint on the Camino. I did the Frances in three parts (2016, 2017 and 2022). Last year I did the Portuguese from Porto. I did the first 200 km of the...
I thought I had this all figured out, but I have ended up with 2 train tickets from San Sebastian (I don't even know if it's the airport or the town) to Irun, instead of ONE that goes all the way...
