During May we stayed in Mondoñedo and re-visited San Martiño de Mondoñedo. We walked to the latter when we walked the Ruta do Mar. There is a newly signed route linking San Martiño with Mondoñedo, starting from the Basilica and passing through Lourenzá before entering Mondoñedo near the church of Santiago. It is signed as the Camino de San Rosendo and is a nice variant for those wanting to walk the coastal and historic section and return to the Norte rather than San Andres, Ferrol and the Inglés.
1) There is a yellow arrow on the wooden sign below the Basilica. This points in the opposite direction to the one to Obispo Santo (going up to Foz on the Ruta do Mar).
2) The Basilica
3) Signage on the outskirts of Lourenzá

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
We can recommend visiting the Basilica. (Access from the tourist office at the left and behind the church itself.
The yellow arrow (see photo above) looks to point up the road at the right of the Basilica. The tourist office might have more information about where the red signs start.
Lourenzá has accommodation, ATMs etc and would be a good place to stay.

A little research shows that the Camino de San Rosendo runs from Foz to Ourense. It is therefore possible to walk the Camino do Mar coastal variant to Foz and then turn south past Obispo Santo to San Martiño de Mondoñedo. The path appears to continue up the road to the right of the Basilica when approached from the north.
Our variant would be to turn inland after San Cosme and approach San Martiño de Mondoñedo from a more southeasterly direction.
Unfortunately all the directions given on various sites work from south to north so the order of all the villages listed needs reversing!!
The following links are worth checking out, although all are in Spanish or Gallego.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
