On a serious note, a seasoned park ranger was killed in Glacier National Park about two years ago while riding his mountain bike on a trail in the park.
In another incident a yearly sponsored event for a high school cross country team running on trails in the park saw an ending to one youth's life as he was pursued by a grizzly and killed. 😐

The National Park Rangers are advising hikers in Glacier National Park and other Rocky Mountain parks to be alert for bears and take extra precautions to avoid an encounter.

They advise park visitors to wear little bells on their clothes so they make noise when hiking. The bell noise allows bears to hear them coming from a distance and not be startled by a hiker accidentally sneaking up on them. This might cause a bear to charge.

Visitors should also carry a pepper spray can just in case a bear is encountered. Spraying the pepper into the air will irritate the bear's sensitive nose and it will run away.

It is also a good idea to keep an eye out for fresh bear scat so you have an idea if bears are in the area. People should be able to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear scat. Black bear droppings are smaller and often contain berries, leaves, and possibly bits of fur. Grizzly bear droppings tend to contain small bells and smell of pepper.

Mountain lions will get you here in hills of Los Angeles. A few years back a male teacher went missing. A few weeks thereafter a woman fought with same lion over her gal pal. Lion had the face she had the legs. She won with help of passing cyclists.

Rangers went looking for rogue lion: found his lair and teachers wear. Sad.

I missed too many.

Fantastic, right? Ankle support but still breathable. I suggest ordering them in camouflage though if you are going to wear in bear country. Also go for the bells on the toes option.

I have an Osprey backpack exactly like that one...only mine is turquoise! It's fantastic so you need to look no further! It's only negative is that it has to be a checked bag as it's just a tad too large for the overhead!

I did try on the daughters pair, just for fun and nearly toppled over
Mind you, at 5ft and getting shorter by the day , I could really use a pair of stilettos
Apart from walking shoes, I haven't bought a fancy pair of shoes for years.......and years.....and years.

That's what I like about this forum. I don't think there are too many "hoity toitys" on here. (That's an English expression, I think!) I probably stopped wearing high heels at about age 45 and don't think any of mine qualified as stilettos even back then! I am 5'4" btw.
P.S. I am very gullible, too! Once I even believed it when someone told me David Attenborough does stunts on Planet Earth videos and he is 90+...now that's gullible!

On my I rarely wear heels but these Nike sticks are to die for., no poles needed.

And, next winter camino, I can switch out boots for these!🤣
