Do you mean the film from years and years ago? And I am hopeless at placing stars. Unless they really are people you can’t miss. Like Rod Laver!
Yes. And, Elizabeth McGovern, is in both OP and DA.

Now is getting close to food o’clock!
These past three years, I am always at that time!

There are many different Pilgrim Routes and Caminos in life.
7:40 to an English speaker is seven-forty or twenty to eight, but the Dutch have a different way of doing things.:)
7:40 = 10 over half 8ten past half (way to) eight.
6:30 to the Dutch is half 7 half (way to) seven.
5:25 to the Dutch is 5 voor half 6five before half (way to) six.
In Sweden we do it like this..
7:40 = tjugo minuter i åtta (20 minuter i 8) - twenty to eight
6:30 = halv sju (halv 7) - half (way to) seven
5:25 = fem i halv sex (5 i halv 6) - five before half (way to) six
So to me it looks almost the same.. :)

If you really want to get confused about what time it is, try learning Dutch.

Got it? Didn’t think so.:)

Have I got this right, Peter and Sabine?
Correct, although here in Belgium we say 7:40 = 20 voor 8. Twenty before eight.

Methinks, in the USA, if I answered five before halfway to seven to a stranger may precipitate an altercation.

Half past, a quarter to, twenty to, I think that’s about as complicated as we get. The advent of cell phones has made timetelling rather exacting.

In Spain, I noticed they’d say 8 menos 20. That less than bit made my head go around.

hi folks. Just as well I was not making a cake for tomorrow. I was busy preparing my virtual recipe/ greeting, when the phone rang. In the middle of the conversation I realised - the pot with potatoes was probably - yes, it was... and in my rush to fix it I did not stop to take a photo. However, here is the redeemed pot, after some baking soda and vinegar, and some elbow grease!

When I was young and daft, I went hitch-hiking southwards with three friends from college in Edinburgh. Wonderful trip, including a super drive on the back of a lorry over the Pennines. Cut to the chase: we ended up in Torquay, in some hotels, earning holiday money. We had split shifts, so were free in the afternoons. And we discovered Devon cream teas...

The answer to that is wether it truly is a Devonshire cream tea or a Cornish cream tea!
Personally...jam first then cream! And for me gentle is foregone...a dollop of both..if it doesn’t end up on the nose then not enough!!!
Think about it logically, a scone is a type of bread right? And cream, like butter, comes from processing milk, yes?

If you were given a slice of bread cut from a loaf, a tub of butter and a pot of strawberry jam would you:

a) spread jam on the bread and then add butter

b) spread butter on the bread and then add jam? ;)

goodness me, the next thing will be "is the chocolate on a chocolate digestive on the top or bottom?"

This what I mean by only UKans.

Sorry, for poor grammar in other post. Made possessive rather than plural.

However, UKans seem to have interesting tea and goodie debates.

Milk added to tea or milk first then tea!

Now, jam first or jam later?

I love that quote, and this is a great cartoon, I presume permission to snap it!
Of course 😄
(I’ve already snapped yours 😉)

So......scones! First cream or first jam?

Always jam first .... as per BB’s quantities 😉😄
Not simply because I have Cornish blood/genes ...
.... think of it as a jam sandwich 🤗

Love the look of this soap, that @Beeman recommended in another thread. Wonder if it works for us human to? Or maybe it is best for giraffes, mices and elephants skin?

It’s lovely stuff 😊
And a lot of it is Fair Trade ... hurrah!!!

The
Bumblies
(1954)

puppet style: hand operated puppets
producers: Michael Bentine, Richard Dendy
and Associates and the BBC

SERIES ONE
6 x 11mins

SERIES TWO
6 x 11mins

"Bumbly, Bumbly what do you say?
Let's sing a Bumbly tune..."

The Bumblies are three bumbling alien ambassadors who hail from the Planet
Bumble. This jolly threesome have touched down in the garden of a madcap
professor and taken up residence in the top corner of his front room, just
beneath the ceiling. But they're not just hanging around for fun. Oh no.
Bumbly One, Bumbly Two and Bumbly Three are here on a mission to
learn all about our planet, its children, and the fun and games and everyday
adventures we all get up to...

This simple little series was created and written by Michael Bentine, the
former Goon who went on to bring us the historical hijinx of Potty Time.
He also donned wig and glasses to play Professor Bentine. The series'
alien stars were manipulated via some very basic engineering and a few
strings, but nonetheless it's good old-fashioned fun and the three Bumblies
each have their own silly and distinct personalities. Their leader, Bumble
One is the one with the brains. Bumble Two is the plump one, and Bumble
Three is slim and rather dim, which means he's the one who always
mucks things up. There's something Eccles-like about this chap, in fact.
And when you look again, there's a certain Goon-like appearance to the
whole scenario. "The Bumblies" floated on to our screens just a few months
after Michael had left that famous comedy gang. He'd been the best-educated
of the quartet (at Eton), so it's no great leap to see their relationship reimagined
here, with Michael as the dotty professor-type "educating" his bumbling
pals.

"Bumbly One, come on down!"

Each episode opens with Mr Bentine's cooky professor "calling" down the
floating Bumblies from the ceiling, one at a time. And stories progress with
the aid of a Bumblescope. This odd creation consists of a base shaped
something like an upturned dog bowl and a modified rubber swim hat
which the Professor is encouraged to put on his head. If he closes his
eyes and thinks very hard the Bumblescope will make props and
objects appear out of thin air. A handy device, don't you think?

Well, it would be super if that Bumblescope could make the entire series
reappear because it's been all-but forgotten in the intervening years since its
first broadcast...

‘Bluebottle’ ... are you ascribing the brains to this foil for Eccles?
ascribing? at this point in the day.night? no, my dear. I ascribe nothing now to anything. My brain is in resting mode! And yes, sorry to the non-bbc people who have their own memories. So what about sharing them then? Oops! I am meant to be in shutdown mode. Goodnight/afternoon/morning - whatever you're having yourself.

Well...my parents had an old (rather big) radio and no television. My earliest memories were two way family favourites, round the Horne (with Kenneth Williams)and...the goon show (Peter Sellars,Michael Bentine,Harry Secombe and Spike Milligan.

Ditto ... 😊

No TV until some years after I left home and even then it belonged to someone else in the house.
Just the radio and lots of books (antiquarian bookdealer in the family).
More nourishment for the imagination?

(and @kirkie ... as you will be aware, the more we read, the larger our vocab.
I have not been awake as long as you have today ... 😉 )
