Not quite live - La Porta de Valcarce to Vega de Valcarce lack of path

Time of past OR future Camino
2016 SJPP-Logrono
2022 Leon-Sarria
2023 Frances
Hi everyone! Returned home from 10 days on the camino from Leon to Sarria a week ago. Loved being back and looking forward to next year!

We found the road from La Portela de Valcarce to Vega de Valcarce to be particularly hazardous - no dedicated walking path, little shoulder, winding and cars/trucks travelling fairly fast. I haven't seen anything here, in Brierley (who has been good at noting hazardous areas), Gronze noting to be careful in this section. Are there plans to make a dedicated path here? Anyone else have a similar experience?

If I recall correctly, in that area, the Camino path is on the other side of the stream or river that runs alongside the highway (N - carretera) route. Road walking is optional depending on the condition of the path - which I also recall does get sloppy if there is a lot of rain.

Also, on the side of the concrete barriers along this stretch of carretera, there is a path on the side facing away from the road that can be walked with a greater degree of safety.

If I misremembered this, please correct me. When I walk this stretch, I customarily prefer to stay as the large Valcarce truck stop hotel on the opposite side of the carretera. It is a bargain. The food is not much, but the rooms are excellent value for money.

Hope this helps.

I wonder if this has something to do with the piece of the autovía that collapsed above the camino. See this thread for more details.
This would make sense - that the traffic has been diverted off the autovía. I remember that stage as being on a very quiet road, with the newer autovía taking all the traffic.
