Hi,

due to unforeseen circumstances (OU broke his arm), I'm postponing my walk on the camino Portuguese Coastal for a second time (third time lucky?). So my question to those who have walked it during the above months (especially if you have done both options), which of the above would be your ideal? Will there be a difference in the number of auberges open/pilgrims walking? I've looked at the climate stats for the two times and not a huge amount of difference although maybe less rain April/May. Maybe someone like @jungleboy can give some insight?

Grateful for your thoughts and wisdom,
Sue

I've walked at both times of the year and experienced some fairly heavy rain (intermittent) and some astounding beautiful days. Buen Camino

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
The Camino “season” generally ends Nov 1, so you may have trouble with cheaper albergue accommodations then due to seasonal closures. Also, we found late October air quality quite bad as there was a lot of agricultural burning post-harvest which was kept in villages due to cloud cover. I love spring walking: everyone and everything just seems fresher and not beat down by the annual pilgrim onslaught.

My non-scientific answer would be that I would choose April/May. Northern Portugal is close to Galicia and we all know that weather can be a bit unpredictable and sometimes not fantastic in those parts but I like the idea of summer getting closer, rather than further away, as you walk!
