Oct Weather Sevilla-salamanca

Ok, so I have three weeks starting early October to walk another part of the Camino. I have pretty much decided on the first 500 K stretch of Via de la Plata. It is probably a foregone conculsion that there will be a Part 2 at a later date.

I have chosen this piece for many reasons, mainly to escape the crowds on the CF, and the accesibility when travelling from Canada. Vancouver-Madrid, then Madrid to Seville via air, and the return from Salamanca is just as easy.

What kind of weather can I expect, will it similar to the Camino Frances in the fall? Or perhaps (hopefully) less rain than to the north??

Thanks,
Lora :D

Well, the answer as I think you you suspect is that there should be less rain than in the North! This is evidenced in the history section of this useful site: http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/Europe.htm where you can go back years to check weather patterns in many spanish cities including Sevilla and Salamanca.

But a point which has been well made on this site recently is that with all of the changes to the weather recently possibly only up to date "next 3 or 5 day" predictions are helpful. For example I hadn't expected the pavement thumping downpours in Santiago this week and an interesting development was the number of pilgrims with umbrellas strapped to their packs! There is regular internet access along the way even in the smallest of places and when I walked this section in Janaury I checked the forward weather as I went.

But there is some lovely walking between Sevilla and Salamanca with great accomodation along the way. Enjoy.

Buen camino
