Official Holy Week (Semana Santa) Schedule...

I received this from Santiago this morning. I converted it to a .pdf file and am attaching it here. It is the official Cathedral schedule for the formal Holy Week observances through Easter on 21 April. This affects life in and around Santiago.

As the Cathedral is 'offline' for renovations, pay attention to the alternative locations for Masses and services. It also affect processions and the like.

For reference, the Church of Saint Mary Salome (named for the mother of Saint James) is on Rua Nova, on the same side of the street as Pilgrim House. You can't miss it...

Also, the Church of San Francisco is the large Basilica / Church just behind the HUGE statue of Saint Francis at the North end of Rua de San Francisco. This is also where all Pilgrim Masses are being held pending the completion of renovations at the Cathedral.

Hope it helps.

Thank you so much for making this program copy. It should be very useful for all the pilgrims in Santiago for this holy period. Furthermore simply reading it allows those of us who are far away to "virtually share" in these sacred events.
Happy Easter, Joyeuses Pâques, Felices Pascuas!

You are most welcome.

I am a recently admitted lay brother (confrade) in the Archconfraternity de Apostol Santiago. As such, I am on their mailing list and get regular information about Cathedral related doings. I share those photos of general interest here, in the forum.

Hope it continues to help.

Thanks Tom.
My Good Friday will involve a 160 year old tradition in Cincinnati, Praying the Steps, a walk from the riverfront to the Immaculata Church atop Mt. Adams. It marks the end of Lent and is a traditional holiday for the city with lots of free flowing beer in all the pubs in Mt. Adams.🍻🍻🍻🍻

Don:

There are variations of this devotion around the world, one of the most popular being praying the steps at St. John Lateran in Rome. but yours is the first I've encountered that postulates beer as a reward.

We need to get to Cincinnati... beer is good...

You know you are more than welcome to visit.
And yes do we have the breweries, a new one is popping up every week.
Cincinnati has a rich German heritage of breweries and beer was the way of life here until prohibition.
Sam Adams is brewed here in one of the old line breweries in the neighborhood know as Over the Rhine, which was the German part of town on the north side of the former canal. Grains came on barges from the fields of central Ohio. There are still churches on many street corners in OTR mit German inscriptions, at one time we had the most German language newspapers in the US until they were shutdown during WWII. You can guess why, no doubt.
One fun fact about Cincinnati's brewing history was the "Pony Keg." Those of us who are of a certain age still go to the "pony keg" to buy chips, beer and cigarettes but for millennials the word no longer exists. The pony keg was introduced by the breweries to bring the beer to the neighborhood, pony carts outfitted with a large keg of beer would sell beer on every street corner in the city. Patrons would bring buckets and glass bottles and load up for the day and night with freshly drafted and no doubt chilly beer from the underground cellars where it was stored.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
In upstate New York, where my sister and mom live, all the local breweries have 1/2 gallon, 2-liter bottles called “growlers.” They are glass and refillable direct from the huge bats of beer.

Yummy!
