old walking stick on my 2nd camino

Hi,

Does anyone know if I will have any problems bringing my old and trusty walking stick (the one I used last time and have a sentimental attachment to) on the airplane (checked of course)? I would hate to try and take it and then have to throw it away because the airlines won't let me take it.

This may sound like a dumb question, but when you finish your 1st walk, you will understand!

Thanks,
Susanne

stix on a plane

Of course, canes and other walking aids are permitted on planes. You have to put your stick through the x-ray at security check, but you should have no problem getting it through.
You can always call an airport to make sure.

I completely understand - it was awful saying goodbye to my old sticks. I left one stood proudly in the sand of Finisterra beach, and the other in the Pilgrim's office in SdeC.

I like to think that someone else used them after me.

Hello
I can only tell you my experiences with my walking sticks.. Both caminos my husbanc made me sticks, ingraved with text and they ment a lot to me. The first camino I went to St Jean by train so that was no problem, but coming back from Santiago I had to give them together with the luggage and I never got them back in Amsterdam.. got lost somewhere along the way.
The second camino I walked from Porto and I went by plane, so I got tape and two big plastic bags and put the sticks together with my backpack, put the plastic bags around it and taped it really tight. That was no problem and I got them in Porto. Going back from Santiago they did not allow this and I had to check them in again as luggage... again.. they never got to Amsterdam!
although they had emotional vallue to me I also accept that I was probably done with them once this camino was over.

Buen camino!!
Blessings Estrella
