The thread that I started last year has become rather long, so here's a new thread to post pictures, musings, etc. from any year for any dates in August on any Camino.

When you respond, please mention the year, route you were on and where you walked (or rested) that day. Thanks!

Also, if you are posting multiple pictures upload them as thumbnails.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
In 2017 I walked from O Cebreiro to Samos. This is what I wrote that day:

Beautiful walk this day to Samos, which is one of the prettiest little places on the Camino. It has quite an impressive monastery, which draws tourists. It has been harder to get a place to sleep each night from this point on, because many Spaniards and other Europeans walk this portion of the Camino in the summer. Including many youth groups. There's one group of 105 from Andalucía.

I have regretted twice not choosing to take this variant. I especially love the last picture of the monestery nestled down below.
You'll definitely have to walk that way the next time you do the Francés. It was one of those towns where I thought "I could live here."

Here are a few moments from my nights in Leon (July 25 thru Aug 1, 2019) nursing my leg injury. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to recuperate. Leon Hostel was very hospitable and is in the best location, close to everything. I was particularly blessed they had an elevator. ☺️ I played hospitalerio in the evenings. It was such fun to welcome and get to know so many other pilgrims on their way.

Yay 💃🏻 I’m free to get on my way!! After a long recovery I’m strong enough to continue my Camino. WooHoo!! 🥳 Sneaking out of the hostel to get an early start then enjoying a relaxing afternoon at the pool. CF Leon to Villar de Mazarife, Aug 2, 2019.

I felt bad for the pilgrims who missed this marker. I heard stories of some walking more than an hour or so towards Oviedo before realizing they had taken the wrong way.

View from the "Templar" castle. I put "Tenplar" in quotes because, while there was a Templar castle at this location, and a small part of it remains on the site, most of what you see here was constructed in the centuries following the dissolution of the order.

Aug 4 2019. Leaving Villares de Orbigo at 4:30a. The goal was to reach Astorga before my friend James, whom I met in Leon, headed out so we could walk to Rabanal together. I found him admiring the cathedral just minutes before he was setting out. Even though I was on nearly no sleep and it being a long and somewhat hard day, I really cherished his company. ☺️

CF August 5, 2019. Rabanal to Molinaseca. Reminiscing gave me warm fuzzies as I past through places I stayed in during my 2013 Camino. Focebadon and Acebo sure have changed. I enjoyed stopping for a cafe con leche then a snack at Cruz de Fero. Lunch in Acebo and my only burger on the Camino at Molinaseca, so, so yummy. I took so many pictures that day, it was hard to choose which ones to post here. 😁 A great day. 💞

Padron to Santiago
Rainy day to Santiago. Not heavy rain, just consistent drizzle. I had already made reservations at the Roots n' Boots albergue and my intent was to stay one night there and off to Fisterre the next morning, but Galician weather changed my plans and ended up staying two nights at Roots n' Boots and one night at San Martin Pinario. Whilst I enjoy Santiago, not so much when the rain is nonstop. I was quite anxious to get walking again.

A selection of Camino Jewellery
CF August 7, 2019 Cacabelos to Trabadelo by way of the upper mountain route at Villafrance de Bierzo through Pradela. My stay in Cacabelos was very interesting from the alburgue in the church grounds to having a lengthy conversation with a man named Santiago who made a mean chicken dish. After a mediocre nights sleep the stork bid me a Buen Camino. I decided to take the alternate at Villafranca de Bierzo because I missed it in 2013. Worth it, however the decent from Pradela was long and at times agonizing. 🐝 Enjoyed the company of pilgrims for a delicious roasted chicken and gazpacho in Trabadelo. In the middle of the night a bunch of young pilgrims came bursting in our room (3) occupants, yelling. GET OUT!! bed bugs, this whole place is crawling with bed bugs! The group proceeded to pack up, very loudly then left, in the middle of the night. Fortunately I was spared the bed bug saga but my newly found friend from Italy found some the next day in her gear. Buen Camino indeed. 👣

6 August, 2016- 5 years ago today O Cebreiro. [somehow this didn't post yesterday so I'm trying again]
When I first passed though O Cebreiro in 1989 there was no albergue, just one inn, and pilgrims were advised to sleep in a palloza like this. By 2016 there was a large albergue, many inns, and this palloza had been converted into a museum. I remembered quite a collection of pallozas like this in O Cebreiro from 1989 and was quite disappointed to see only this one when I arrived. It wasn't until the next morning when we were about to depart I noticed a side street with several others.

7 August, 2016 - 5 years ago today - Triacastela
We had rented bikes in O Cebreiro to try one day as bicigrinos, in an attempt to pamper my ailing knees, so we arrived quite early in Triacastela. Nevertheless, the first three albergues we tried were "completo" with reservations. This was the view by the one that had room.

CF August 8, 2019: Not long after leaving Trabadelo did we stop for fresh pastry and cafe con letche. So fresh. Yum. It was a nice climb to O’Cebreiro. Wind, drizzle and beauty. The albergue filled up in an hour, the entire village was full. I felt so bad for those stuck outside in the rain with no accommodation.

August 10-13 2019-Camino Fisterre
SDC-Fisterre
My original plan was to take four days to walk to Fisterre, but while not many actual pilgrims walking, I found the towns to be busy with tourist pilgrims who were traveling by other means. Albergues filled quickly, so my daily walking distances were longer and I got to Fisterre in three days, and ended up staying there two nights instead of one at the Oceanus private albergue, which was modern and nice.

CF Aug 10, 2019: Samos to Sarria to Barbadelo. The beauty and tranquility walking to and out of Samos. Such a peaceful feeling. I think of dragon scales when I see this type of rooftop. The steps in Sarria have a special meaning to me from back in 2013 when I stayed at that albergue to the left. This sweet dog kept me company along with a few locals while I took a break at the top of the stairs. Storks having a “field day” so to speak. The TREE and this is the most playful cow I’ve ever met. I love his toupee too. 💞 Am I ahead of the Sarria crowd?

Astorga to Foncebadon
Stayed at the parish albergue in Foncebadon. Domus Dei. Very rustic and basic, as was the entire small town. I remember a communal meal put on by the albergue that night and the albergue was full. In just a couple of years more albergues will spring up and some paving of the path occurred. Hope the small town is faring through the pandemic ok.

I too stayed in that alburgue on my first in September 2013. The communal meal was amazing. Some, including myself had a small Christian service in a tiny room in the back, used for such an occasion, given my the host. Very peaceful. The wind howled through the night. I recall it rained too. But the next day was magnificent. I love your photos. Yes, the village was much different in 2019 when I passed through.

Evening and next morning, 15/16th August 2019. The hanging bridge at Portugalete. It was built to allow ships heading for the docks in Bilbao, just up the river, to pass under . There are still about a dozen of these around the world and this one is still very much in use. There is a kind of trolley that moves across the top rail. Hanging from this is a cradle which carries vehicles and pedestrians across the river. Designed (no surprises here) by a student of Eiffel. We spent 2 weeks as hospis in the temporary albergue, this is the view from just outside the polideportivo that housed it. I found this bridge endlessly fascinating, possibly because I had a Meccano kit when I was a kid but could never make anything with it properly.

O'Cebreiro to Triacastela
Nice walk to Triacastela. Stayed at the big municipal albergue just as you enter town. I do remember being in a fairly long queue waiting for the albergue to open. Everyone did the putting one's backpack on the ground to signify your place in the queue. Works quite well, except for two young peregrinos who lounged the entire time in the field with their packs and when the albergue opened they tried to cut in front. How childish and rude.

Saint Jean Pied de Port
Spent the night before at the pensiones Corazon Puro. I had stayed there before and liked it. The couple that ran it were so gracious and all in all not that much more than the cost of getting to SJPdP on your own, plus dinner. Was dropped off at SJPdP that morning, got my credentials and checked in the auberge, Accueil Kaserna. Really liked that place. There was also a celebration in town that day with processions in the streets, and musicians. Also enjoyed lunch and a cold regional beer.

You were just a few days ahead of me on my 2016 Camino Frances. On this day I walked from Palas de Rei to Ribadiso. That was a very warm and dry Camino Frances for me. No rain the entire time, from SJPdP to SDC.
We never needed our rain gear that whole Camino either. It did occasionally rain a bit but always at night or while we happened to be in a bar. Even for this photo, it was more fog than rain.

August 16th 2016-Camino Frances
SJPdP to Roncesvalles
As can be seen in these photos, was a beautiful day for walking. The auberge had breakfast included, and I fortified myself with more coffee at Orisson, as well as filled up my water bottles. Whilst the path was dry overall, the section through the woods as you get closer to Roncesvalles was still a bit muddy from past rains. Not a problem except there were sections deeply rutted out from bicycles causing wide watery mud pits. As the bicyclists avoid the deeper center more and more, they widen the mud hole more and more making walking there a messy affair. Pain in the butt. They should know better.
Quite a crowd at the albergue, was far from full when I got there but by evening may have been at capacity. Still, overall on this Camino I always found a bed. Had the typical pilgrim's dinner that night. The fish, fries, salad, bread, wine and dessert. Not a scrap of bread left behind nor a drop of wine lol.

August 15, 2019 — I’m a little behind in posting. It was yesterday 2 years ago I completed my third and most difficult Camino. I recall as I got closer to Santiago there weren't any pilgrims around. I wondered where they all were. When I entered the square, there they were. It was so nice to be greeted by some fellow pilgrims who made my walk that much brighter. Will I be back? God only knows. 😎 I celebrated with the most delicious ice cream ever!

As expected the Frances was very busy that day and despite getting to Portomarin early (only about 22 kms) I found all the albergues (at least the couple I checked) to be completo, so when I went into a pensiones (Porto Santiago) and was told there was a small room available I took the bird in the hand. It was basic and clean. No complaints. Very nice warm and sunny day and good for exploring the town.

Monte de Gozo to Santiago
The day before it was late in the afternoon by the time I was in the vicinity of San Marcos. Stopped there and had a hamburger and a beer and carried on, but as I reached Monte de Gozo and saw the large amount of pilgrims on the path and being that I had no reservations in Santiago I made the decision to stay in the big albergue there, which I had done before and it is kind of unique. There was probably about thirty other pilgrims staying there as well. Had a communal meal that night with some of them and early in the morning I headed to the cathedral, which is a short walk and was a lovely day and only a few fellow pilgrims in the plaza. Stayed a couple of days in Santiago at the Last Stamp albergue.

Palas de Rei to Arzua
I like Arzua. Nice town with everything for the pilgrim. Stayed at the albergue Don Quijote. Had a nice dinner, cold beer and got a good rest as I planned on walking the full 38-39 km's to Santiago the next day.

Arzua to Santiago
Beautiful day. Sunny and warm. Had a good breakfast and coffee in Arzua and off I went. Was a long walking day. Almost 40 km's. Walked with several pilgrims that day, though by the time I reached San Marcos and took a break for a cold beer and something to eat it was around 6:00 pm and very few left on the route. I think I maybe 2-3 other pilgrims as I entered into SDC walking to the cathedral and got there after 7:00 pm. The plaza still had pilgrims when I got there, and the since it gets dark late there in August the sky was quite clear and blue. I decided I would take a room at the first place that had a room and that was A Casa do Peregrino near the cathedral and stayed there two nights. Went to a very crowded mass the next morning and was blessed to see the botafumeiro swing.
It was a wonderful Frances to walk. No rain at all during the days and only a few times late at night. Though a lot of pilgrims walking I always found a place to stay.

My last day in Santiago 2 Years Ago today, August 20, 2019. Saying goodbye to my new friend James whom I met in Leon was difficult as we shared hot chocolate and churros. Then a little roaming around. I LOVE Santiago. 💞

Ciraqui to Villamayor de Monjardin
That last upwards stretch up to Villmayor is always interesting. It is a nice little village. Blackberries ripe along the Way and I stopped quite often on this Camino to pick and eat them when I saw a really nice, ripe bunch. Sometimes I found myself stopping a bit too long, filling my cap with them and eating just as many whilst picking. I did notice very few pilgrims were interested in eating them. Quite surprised me as they are delicious. Picking them reminded me of going out and picking them with my dad when I was a youngster. Filling up a plastic bucket.

Belorado to San Juan de Ortega
Got to San Juan and stopped for a break. Was going to walk to Ages, but changed my mind and ended up staying at the big public albergue, San Juan. Went to mass later and had the communal meal as well. The albergue was quite full.

Hontanas to Castrojeriz
Short walking day.
In Castrojeriz stayed at the municipal, San Esteban. Nice albergue.
Those two big pooches in the roadway were quite harmless.
