As Japan braces for the impact of the super typhoon today, our thoughts & wishes are with the wonderful people of such an amazing & resilient country. Here's hoping for the best possible outcome; no loss of life or injuries, minimal damage & no loss of livelihoods. 🤞
For all our walking & travelling friends currently on the Way of 88 Temples, the Kumano Kodo or any of the other trails, stay safe, ride it out & then may you continue on your way.
Take care 'out there'.

On my own Shikoku walk I saw this sign in a convenience store window. A reminder that in Japan people live at much greater risk of these severe weather events and also earthquake, tsunami and volcanic eruptions than in places like my own home in the UK. Resilient and prepared - and also often very generous and compassionate.

Our scheduled walk in Japan (the annual international walking festival) / 150 km was cancelled in October this year because of landslides /damage to infrastructure from the Typhoon 12-13.october. We walked the Kumano-Kodo instead. The typhoon did not hit the Kii-peninsula as hard as Tokyo and we had a magnificent experience! The Nakahechi route has two detours because of earlier landslides, looks as if these are permanent now (several years old). Registered now as dual pilgrim

Unfortunately, as we now know, the super typhoon did wreck havoc, massive destruction & tragic loss of life.
Let's hope those affected are receiving the help & support they need to rebuild their homes & lives.
We haven't forgotten about you Japan. 🇯🇵 😔
