Overnight accommodations on the Coastal Route

Hi,

I want to walk the Coastal Route of the Camino Portugues in September this year. Since I'm a slow walker I'd like to walk only 12 to 16 kilometers a day.

I am wondering at the moment, if this is feasible or wise to do or will I have problems finding overnight accommodations, if I don't follow the usually suggested distance? The normal daily length to walk seems to be at least 20 to 25 kilometers - when looking at the suggested routes in books or online descriptions.

I was told that September is still very much 'holiday' season in Portugal and lodging along the coastal towns will be filled, especially on both ends of a weekend. We are walking the Costal in the beginning but heading inland to join the other route after Vila do Conde. We are also not wanting to walk long distances on this specific Camino ( been there, done that, several times ! ) We did book ahead for the first week of walking along the sea and availability was still difficult to find. If you've a question about a specific village/town/hamlet I can let you know where we found to stay. Having said that, there are many nights we're going to have to depend on fate and kindness.

There are two camping places where you can stay rather than a pension or hotel. We stayed in the last one prior to Vila de Conde and took a bungalow. It was fun, many pilgrims and the place had a restaurant.

Download trailsmart. It has all the info u need including hotels different stages etc.. I completed the costal route last month and had no issues finding a place to stay.

I think the issue becomes "when" someone plans to walk as opposed to what is available normally. Did you find it to be crowded in May when you walked? Did you book at all? A day ahead or no reservation at all?

I had no issues at all I stayed in both hotels and albergues. If u would've downloaded the app u would c that it includes hotels etc... And it does the entire route and amenities. So u can see what is available where

We stayed in fabulous campsites run by a company called Orbitur ( in Portugal) . They do cheap overnight rates for pilgrims ...8-12 euros per person . There is one in Lavra and one near Caminha ( with one site in-between ...but I can't remember where ...!?). You get a 2 roomed " chalet" , there are clean shower blocks , and on-site restaurants ( they can be expensive , but , they do pilgrim menus) also swimming pools . They are located in fabulous woodland settings . Very peaceful after a day's walking on the coastal . Bom Camino .
