One of our forum members mentioned Packsacks in one of their posts.
I went onto the EXPED website and bought an XL packsack liner for my backpack. It worked like a charm, kept everything inside completely dry even when torrential rains at the start of our walk got past the pack cover and into my backpack.
I see from the website that they have introduced Packsacks with see through panels which should be very useful if you are searching for something and don't want to unpack the whole bag.
Go to EXPED.COM - click on English, then on Products, then on Packsacks.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
You are quite right but plastic bags tear easily, and they are noisy!

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
I bought a pack sack at an outdoor store in Bordeaux. I didn't have much trouble with rain during my trek (July - August of 2007). I also had a poncho that went over both me and the pack, so that was probably enough protection. But, better safe than sorry.

One issue I had with the pack sack was that it negated the advantage of a multi-access-point pack. I always had to unpack everything from the top down to get something, vs. go through the front zipper or the sleeping bag zipper. Guess there are pluses and minuses to everything.

Hola, I gearing up to start my 1st CdS and have seen people recommended sleeping bag liners to protect against bed bugs. Do these help or is it a myth? Should I add the extra weight of bringing one?
Michael @wisepilgrim had mentioned a new feature that he was developing for Wise Pilgrim, and it looks like it is now in operation. You can check the app and see in real time how many beds are...
