No current forecast of snow. Given the rain & snowfall of the last two months expect mud. Lots of mud. The nice distinction is between the clays of Navarra and Rioja; the change from ludicrously sticky to ridiculously slippery gives an unforgettable impression of progress...

Thanks a lot : ) really helpful and visual info... ah that sticky mud !! when you are suddenly 2 kg heavier  ! : ))) was thinking to keep walking from Pamplona instead of Logrono as continuation of Camino del Ebro to Camino Frances... not the right shoes !!
Would you say present walking conditions improve from Logrono?
Thsnks for help :)

I'd say no. One Camino was mud, glorious mud, sticky and slippery and boggy and gooey - all the way from Najera to Santo Domingo, and then a couple of days later from Rabe to Hornillos, where it is of a more clumpy, heavy, leaden consistency. I then walked the bitumen road to Castrojeriz. With gratitude!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
We need an invention that flicks mud off the soles every few steps. Should be possible for someone to come up with a small fitting that can be attached to the shoe. Or sandal in my case. I tend to use my trekking sticks, but it's tedious.

Thanks so much all of you who post current conditions. Although I'm not actually walking till early May, I can see that this is a wet Spring and in my last 'packing' week you've inspired me to get an extra shoe option in my life. My main shoes are insanely comfortable, particularly on hard roads/cobbles/rock. They handle water well and are super lightweight (550gm a pair), so I can carry a spare pair in case they get wet. But as they're low cut, can tend to slip off in mud. I'm off to get a pair of Redbacks tomorrow :)

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
I'll be doing that stretch in weeks. Perhaps I'd better pack some gaiters!

wow, this thread was started a month ago and the weather reports/forecasts are STILL for rain/showers. The place must be sodden...

Nope. Just arrived in Puente la Reina from Pamplona. Conditions PERFECT. No mud, dry trail.
Excellent! Great that it's dried out for you! And yes, these days are forecast cleared up.. then some, then less some... more like 'conditions normal' than earlier :)
