What is the best way to get from Pamplona to Salamanca?
I have been searching the transport sites and these are the options I've come up with. Is there another way? Also, can you recommend a hotel in Salamanca.

1) Fly from Pamlpona to Salamanca on Iberia for about 550 euro. http://www.ibera.es
2) Take an 8 hour train journey - it leaves Pamplona at 20h34 and arrives at San Sebastian at 22h30. Departs San Sebastian at 22h39 and arrives in Salamanca at 04h31 the next day. http://www.renfe.com
3) Take an Alsa bus from Pamplona to Madrid - it takes 5 1/2 hours and costs about 27.50 euro. From Madrid there are two choices - take an Auto-Res bus - http://www.venta.avanzabus.com/ - to Salamanca. They leave almost hourly and take about 2 1/2 hours.
Or, take the train which leaves less frequently but also takes 2 1/2 hours.

Hire a car, probably cheaper and quicker.

We usually stay at the San Polo in Salamanca. http://www.hotelsanpolo.com/ it is a mid range hotel between the river and the cathedrals on the edge of the old town centre not far from the refugio. It has one suite which used to be very good value with a roof top terrace. We have stayed elsewhere in town including the las Torres on the Plaza Mayor but the rooms are more expensive there like for like. The parador is outside the old town south of the river. We had a good meal at the AC Palacio de San Estoban

Hi, Sil,
I think taking the bus would require a transfer in either Vitoria (1 1/4 hour to Vitoria, then 5 or 5/12 hours to Salamanca) or in Burgos (probably similar total travel time) . I think if you break the segments down you'll find the best schedules on movelia, that is, do Pamplona to Vitoria search, then Vitoria to Salamanca search, and then do the same with Burgos instead of Vitoria to compare which has better transfer options time-wise.

I always find that movelia website hard to work with when the trip will require a transfer, and I find that by doing it in segments I can get better results.

You can find the same thing on the RENFE site if you break it down, Pamplona - Burgos, then Burgos to Salamanca (Pamplona-burgos 13:10 - 15:19; Burgos to Salamanca, 17:04 - 19:37). Maybe there's an option via Vitoria as well.

Hope this helps, Laurie

Thank you! It seems there are endless options and it will all depend on this pilgrim's timetable.

Can anyone help me with the best bus or train options from Caceras to Pamplona?
Working from this iPhone is difficult and there appear to be no direct routes
Thanks.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Thanks Margaret. I went to the bus station and got a ticket to Vitoria for tomorrow.
Now I just have to figure out how to get from Vitoria to Pamplona after 21:30
But at least I will be close! Hooray!
