Hi, we're from New Brunswick Canada, flying out of Toronto on Sept 11th, arriving in Madrid 8am on the 12th, taking the 11;35 train to Pamplona. Not sure how we're getting to St Jean pied de port, hoping to meet some pilgrims in transit for info.

Hi, Beavers, and welcome to the Forum :)

After my arrival in Madrid this September, I decided that I will be taking a short flight from Madrid to Biarritz airport. From Biarritz it's just a 40 minute shuttle ride to St Jean Pied de Port. When I looked at taking the train to Pamplona and then getting transported from Pamplona to St Jean Pied de Port, it was a longer trip and didn't save me much money.

When looking at transport options from Pamplona to SJPdP, I found this taxi company in Pamplona which specializes in taking pilgrims to SJPdP. You make an online reservation for pickup at your arrival location. During the reservation process, you have the option to select that you are willing to share a taxi with others going to SJPdP, so that the fare is split up. The company will work to schedule a full taxi for you, or assign you to a taxi from someone else's reservation to share.

Conda has buses directly from Pamplona to St. Jean. I have done this and enjoy the ride with a bus load of pilgrims. Don't sit in the back of the bus if you get car sick.
You can
buy tickets on line and at the
station.http.conda.es/eventos.php?tipo=3&id=438

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
The 11:35 train arrives in Pamplona at 14:40. There is a bus from Pamplona bus station at 17:30 to SJPdP, arriving at 19:15. (€22 each.) It's a pleasant trip, and will give you a preview of parts of the Camino.

The bus station is a 15-20-minute bus ride from the railway station.

As davebugg notes, there is a direct flight from Madrid to Biarritz. Unfortunately, it leaves Madrid at 09:00, too early for you to connect.

There is a late morning bus from the Madrid airport to Pamplona, with a connection to the 17:30 bus to St. Jean. Worked well for me---twice. Met nice pilgrims on the bus trip.

Yes, there is an ALSA coach from Madrid airport at 10:45, arriving in Pamplona at 15.35 (31.55€, change in Soria) or the PLM Autocares service leaving at 12.00, arriving 18.15 (22.63€) Both arrive at Pamplona bus station, from where the SJPdP bus leaves.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
The CONDA bus line is a subsidiary of the ALSA bus line. You can also book the tickets from Pamplona at the ALSA website. Just telling you to reduce confusion if you see both names mentioned here and there.

On June 4, we walked out of train station and straight to a taxi.
