This is our 1st Camino
Hello,
We are planning to walk the Camino Frances starting early November. We arrive on Oct 31st in Madrid at 1:40 pm. We can take a train to Pamplona but we are wondering how we get from Pamplona to St Jean? Also is this the easiest or best way of getting to St Jean?

Thank you,

Bus is the cheapest, a taxi is faster but expensive.

As far as I can tell there are NO buses running between Pamplona and St Jean after October 21st. I arrive in Madrid early morning on that day, bus from T4 to Pamplona and then on to St. Jean. Tickets booked via the Alsa website. If you use the Conda link they redirect you to Alsa. I plugged in various dates after October 21 and got no results so opted for that day. It will be the last week that you can walk the route Napoleon.

I see on a SJ website that the last day the Pamplona to SJ bus runs this year (2018) is October 23. However the PLM bus line has Tuesday and Friday service from Pamplona to Pekotxeta, Spain (Arneguy) leaving the Pamplona bus station at 11 AM. You could try walking to Roncesvalles from there or walk or taxi to SJ to start the next day. See https://plmautocares.com/Horarios_PLM.pdf

Last April I met four others on the bus from the Madrid airport to Pamplona. It made a couple of stops, but when we got to Pamplona we followed the signs to the taxi area. There was a SUV waiting. Cost us each about 25 Euros to get to the municipal alburgue in St. Jean. Worked seamlessly, almost like it was planned. The magic of the Camino.

Ok, Thank you! I could not find any buses to St Jean on our date so this is very helpful!
