For those of us who are not "in the know" can you tell us something about Paula?
I stayed with her in 2017. It was an interesting experience to say the least. She was a wonderful host and made us all feel welcome and happy. There is nothing around her albergue so once you are there, well you are there. My friend and I spent a relaxing afternoon on the porch. I did have to shoo the cats away alot. ( am not a big fan of cats). We had a fantastic dinner and met some wonderful and unique people. We all stayed together through Porto then my friend left. I stayed a few days and the others went on. At dinner there was a couple from Romania. A few days later Tudor showed us the engagement ring, as he was going to propose in front of the cathedral when they arrived in Santiago. They are now happily married. The next day Andrea's twin sister showed up in a taxi and started walking with us. There was Steve who was 82 years old and looked 55. He was from Las Vegas and regaled us with stories of his 5 marriages to Vegas showgirls. Each one took him to the cleaners. He said it was all worth it as he had a blast and maybe he was broke but as the saying goes you can't take it with you! I talked to one of his kids one day on the phone. I think he had 9 or 10 kids from all the marriages and she said he was even more unique and wonderful than we knew. Just the marriages wasn't the half of it she said. He had made a small fortune with 5 or 6 different companies he started only to give them to the showgirls in the divorce settlements.
So yes it was a special albergue and she was a special lady for me.

I wish I could be there. We stayed with her in September of 2018. She prepared the most wonderful dinner ( Ginja ) and breakfast and insisted we accept a ride from her the next morning to Santarem because it was so bloody hot. She then insisted on being our "tour guide" at the Portas do Sol. Such an interesting and generous soul. It is a loss for pilgrims for sure. Thank you for bringing attention to her passing.
