People w/ Parkinson's on the CF

I'm thinking about possibly leading a group of people with Parkinson's disease (including spouse/sig other/caregiver if they want) to walk the last 11 stages (11-12 days, 257.4 km or 160 miles) of the CF from Astorga to Santiago de Compostela in September 2019. By that time, I will be a 3x Camino veteran, and I'd love to share the Camino experience with others who are facing the same challenge that I have/am.

It's possible that we could raise awareness about PD and raise some money for a PD charity. However, the goals of the trip would be to create an unforgettable life experience and open doors to many other possibilities. @Phoenix you could talk to @sillydoll, I think her experience would be valuable to you. She has led a couple of groups of people from Sarria to SDC, people with physical difficulties who would not otherwise have been able to make the walk.

My first Camino experience was as a caregiver/teammate for a friend w/ PD. It changed his life ... and mine.

A life changing experience for you both....Such a debilitating horrible disease I know from personal and working experience. Well done and Buen

My father passed away from complications due to Parkinson's disease , I am unfortunately familiar with it's debilitating effects .
Balance and the classic ' foot shuffle ' are certainly considerations but with care these limitations will not be insurmountable.
Phoenix , you have my admiration , such a worthwhile and therapeutic cause and goal, well done and good luck to all of you .

Since retirement I have completed two Camino Frances, from St Jean to Santiago. I am hoping to do my third this year sometime. Although not a religious man as such, it does renew ones faith in people from all over the world. I lost count of how many people offered help to me for the most simple of tasks, but which make life so much easier, such as carrying my coffee to my table, easy for most people, but to a sufferer with PD, near impossible!! I love the Camino and will carry on until I can no longer do it, so I wish you well, Buen Camino

I'm glad to hear that you have experienced the joy of the Camino, and hope you have many more. Buen Camino!

I am a 15-yr PD veteran, diagnosed as a young man. The first 8 yrs were quite a challenge, but the last 7 yrs have been much better--great, in fact. Being physically active is essential, so I am always on the go. The Camino has brought me great joy and peace; this is what I hope to share with others who are struggling to overcome the beast.

No. Some unexpected life circumstances came up that prevented me from actively recruiting folks.

I would still love to do so in the future, but it looks like the earliest it could be is 2023.

Don’t feel discouraged; I did more or less your intended route back in September of 2018 and I’m a Parkinson’s patient. Currently planning my second Camino (CP). This can be done by people with the Parkinson’s ailment, movement is the key to place a hold on the progress of the ailment.
Hope you can put together the group and have a great time.
