I have just discovered that Cape Union Mart stocks a permethrin spray which can be used to protect your sleeping bag or liner from bed bugs before you leave. It’s called Vital Protection, and states:

Textile application only
Effective for up to 3 months or 30 washes
Durable protection
Anti-bacterial
Safe and effective.

The 100ml bottle costs R120 and the 220ml bottle costs R220.
Their website is www.vitalprotection.co.za

Buen bedbug free camino!

Thanks Jill was wondering where to find this spray in SA.
Any idea if this will be recognized and accepted in the gites in France ???
Cheers

Susie, most gites in France are concerned about the bedbugproblem and advice you to treat your belongings. They also often sell tratment or give you an advice of where to buy it. The most usual for sale in gites and farmacias is CLAKO, a permethirn spray, I guess something like the one jsalt found.

Yes bed bugs are a gites nightmare.... I bought CLAKO last year on the Le Puy route but I think maybe the French wont recognize a product under a different name...Think I will get it in France so save any problems.
Thank you
