Pilgrim House in Santiago

I had a nice conversation with @natefaith at Pilgrim House a while back (finally got the time to edit and publish this now)

There's a thread active now about what you regret about your camino. Well ... in my case not visiting Pilgrim House! Next time for sure.
I don't know why, but I was surprised that @natefaith are young! Good on ya!

Thank you Ivar for this video visit and interview with Nate & Faith in their beautiful space for pilgrims. I had a lovely visit over a cup of tea at their kitchen table after my last camino in 2019. I'd been trying each year but until my visit in 2019, I had always arrived in Santiago on a Wednesday or Sunday :) Wishing them well and hope to visit again in 2022!

For me, being in Santiago is never complete without a visit to Pilgrim House. It’s such a welcome sanctuary when you’re feeling a bit scattered and need a place to just sit and chill. Nate did a great job of listening to me after a less than perfect Camino a few years back when I just needed to get things off my chest. Wonderful people, wonderful place.

Most years since 2012. Hoping now for 2022.
Is this a faith based service or non religious?
My understanding is that the organization behind Pilgrim House may be faith-based, but there is no evangelism whatsoever. It is simply a nice place to visit and chat, know that you are welcome, and get any help or information you might need. It is rather like the Camino itself - historically faith-based but genuinely welcoming and engaging for people from all backgrounds and beliefs. That mixture of tolerance has been a lesson for me, a non-believer.

I have stopped by The Pilgrim House every year since my first Camino in 2014 including January 2020 but they were not open. (Thanks, Nate and Faith for the wi-fi I was able to use while sitting outside your window.) You pose a very good question. My answer to your question is simply “Yes!”. My guess is that you may not know what I mean by “Yes” to an either-or question. In which case, I suggest you stop in and say hello at the end of your Camino.
Buen Camino!

Thanks. That is helpful information.

Thanks, everyone, for the nice comments. It has been a privilege for us to meet you all after your Camino. Look forward to seeing everyone next time.

In a way, watching the video reminded me of what happens in Pilgrim House quite a bit - people sitting on the couch and talking. Now you've gotten a really good feel for what that looks like, ambient noise and all. :)

I have visited Pilgrim House several times, after my various caminos. To some, they may provide services without evangelism. To me, they provide a place to share a faith-based perspective on the meaning of my Christian pilgrimage.

I love the Pilgrim House. It's an inclusive, welcoming and caring landing pad for people of all backgrounds and walks of faith. I love to cook a meal, do laundry, journal in the front room, and generally just collect myself after months of walking. I'm not Christian or "religious", but I'd like to think they represent who Jesus really was: caring, accepting, non-judgmental and loving...no matter who you are.

Can't wait to see you guys again..... (ps, loving the patio 💜 )
