October 2013
Hi everyone, I'm new to forum and it has been an immeasurable source of help for me ever since I started planning. I'm starting the Camino from Pamplona in October. Will I be able to get a pilgrim passport in Pamplona (and where), or will I need to get one in advance? I know this question has been asked before, but the last thread I could find was from 2011, so I just wanted to make sure the information I have is current. Thanks in advance!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Thanks so much for the info! I'm actually planning on staying at a hotel my first night to recover from jet lag, etc. Is there anywhere I can get a passport without having to stay the night? I think I read that there was an office somewhere in Pamplona?

serenalms,

You might try for your Credential at the office of the Pamplona Cathedral on Calle Curia, tele. +34 948 22 56 79. If unsuccessful after walking west following the Camino you will soon arrive at Cizur Menor and the Albergue Roncal which is open all year except November. In the past pilgrims could obtain a Credential here. However email Maribel to be sure. Her email is >> maribelroncal@jacobeo.net and web is http://www.elalberguedemaribel.com/

Buen Camino,

Hi Serenalms.
You can get your pilgrims passport in the pilgrims refuge Casa Paderborn in Pamplona. And if you are not to late in the day and if you have luck you can get even a bunk for the night.
But you can even get your pilgrims passport without sleeping there.
Buen Camino to you! :D

Our Camino also started in Pamplona last April. We arrived there by train at 10:30 PM and stayed in the Puerta del Camino hotel, very good value and right on the Camino. We did get the credential at the Albergue Jesus y Maria but when we arrived there the albergue was closed until noon and we had to wait and come back.

I do not have first hand experience about this, but you may wish to try the offices of American Pilgrims on the Camino where you can get your credencial in advance for free. That way you can arrive in Pamplona ready to go.
