The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
You should be able to get your passport thingy  at the "Albergue de peregrinos" in Sarria.

Hi Ivar,

I'll be arriving in Sarria on Tuesday evening. Do you know if you can still pick up passports at the Albergue de Peregrinos?
Thanks in advance,

Colm

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
There are many pilgrim albergues in Sarria. The municipal albergue run by the Xunta de Galicia at Calle Major 79 definitely offers pilgrim Credencials. You need not stay there to obtain one.

I had to pick up a second credenciale last week in Sarria because mine was almost full. I got one from the monastery at the top of the hill - there is an albergue there too but you don't need to be staying there. We just wandered in around lunchtime and a very helpful young man at the desk provided us with our new credenciales (for €1.50 each).
The church mentioned above seems not to be open except at mass times and a notice directs people up the hill.

Buen Camino!
