Pilgrim Tattoos?

Hey all,

I did the Camino during July-August of 2007, from St. Jean to Santiago. To commemorate my trek, I'm thinking of getting my first tattoo. For a design, I'm considering one of the albergue stamps, and will probably have it done on my right calf (or a smaller one on my right inside forearm - or both).

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has gotten a tattoo as a result of doing the Camino, and if so, what was it, and where did you put it (if that's not too personal)? :)

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
The only Camino related tattoos I have seen were being sported by a group of cyclists who had the Cross of St James http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_St_James tattooed above their ankles on one leg. They were proud of their achievement and said they had been tattooed in Santiago. I found it difficult to believe the City could sustain a tattooist but surprisingly there is a shop on the Rua Nova. However I don't think a new tradition of get your Compostella then your tattoo will ever have widespread appeal - the very idea makes my eyes water :)

Good luck!

I am walking the Camino Frances in June (2014) and have plans to get a tattoo on the side of my right foot. A shell with the word Ultreya underneath. I think a tattoo is a great souvenir and commemoration of the walk.

I have a couple of tattoos and been thinking about getting one to commemorate the Camino. I've got a piece in progress at the moment but when that's finished I'm thinking about getting a St James cross. I walked in autumn when the landscape was covered in very seasonal plants like rowan/mountain ash berries, holly, rose hips, vines, etc., and want to have vegetation tangling round the cross.

When around Santiago last summer I saw two people I had encountered a few times along the way who had had shell tattoos on their ankles. Like Johnnie - not my cup of tea but each to their own.
