I am reaching Santiago soon. I can reach it Friday if I move move move. ☺

I read that there's a mass at the cathedral at 12.00 (noon) but that the botafumerio is being swung only at Fridays at 19.30.

Any thoughts if this is worth rushing for? Otherwise I'll take it easy and reach Santiago Saturday morning...

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Hola Erno - the Botafumeiro is used every Friday evening at the 7.30 mass because the Hotels in Santiago pay for the booking. But it is also used on many, many other occasions when other groups pay for it. It is being used a lot at the moment. Generally speaking if it is hanging above the altar it will be used that day or next.

Buen Camino

I attended the noon mass on a Wednesday (April 6) - the Botafumeiro swung. My cousin finished the Camino last year - went to 3 masses with no Botafumeiro :( I had no idea on the hanging above the alter "tell" - I was 100% surprised when it was used especially since the Mass I was at wasn't all that well attended.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

We arrive in time for mass at 7:30 Friday and had the botafumerio, but we also saw it during two more masses in the next 3 days. It was really neat.

Unless things have really changed, the botafumerio is used on all Sunday's as well as on major Feast Days. Monday the 25th is the Feast of St. Mark; I don't know if it will swing then or not. If you arrive on Saturday, your information will be read into Mass on Sunday; it is always read the day after you arrive. I hope this helps a bit.
