Having just returned from Salamanca-SDC then Vezelay-SDC via the northern route I thought I would offer some advise on collecting your compostela from the pilgrims office. For some reason many seem to think that the earlier they get there the quicker they will get a compostella-wrong. The majority seem to stay at monte gozo then walk the 4-5 kms the next morning. The attached photo shows the folly of this idea. The average wait was 3-4 hours. I collected mine at 7pm and was at least in the building and on the stairs and waited 35 minutes. My tip is that if you get to SDC early find accommodation first, relax, have the 8.50 euro all you can eat lunch at Aires Nunes, siesta,a beer then get the compostella in the evening.
The line goes along the front of the office and runs the whole length of the left hand side.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hola Omar - glad to see you back after your adventures! Absolutely correct - a few weeks ago I was walking around Santiago at 7.30am and there was a queue of about 50 pilgrims at the Office by that time. The Pilgrims Office is jammed in the busy season until about 12 noon. Obviously pilgrims who may have to leave quickly try to get their Compòstela then go to the Mass. However many also arrive in Santiago the day before and after a good night´s sleep come to the Office. It is quieter later in the day.

Has anybody recently volunteered at the Pilgrim office for the 15 day timeframe? Where did you stay in Santiago?
For those who are in Santiago 🙏🏻
