Pilgrim's Passport - from Pamplona

I have not had a time to get the passport from US. As a result, I have get one from my starting point. My starting point will be Pamplona. I was going to start at SJPdP but did not want to lose couple days getting there from Pamplona.

Do I have to have a passport to stay a night in Albergue de Jesus y Maria in Pamplona?
Is there a place in Pamplona where I can stop to get a passport?
I am a first time visitor and unsure of prcedures. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am planning on arriving 1/21-8PM at Pamplona and head west next morning.

I believe you can obtain your pilgrim credencial at Catedral de Santa María, Calle Dormitalería 3

I think that the albergue might also have them.

I included two links one to info on the albergue and another for Galicia..which states you should be able to purchase a credential at this albergue. I do recall seeing them at the desk.

Just do a google search and it will give you directions . In fact I posted a map with direction in another thread recently https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/bus-from-pamplona-to-st-jean-pdp.59686/post-698669. post #2 shows the station

Church. I do not know what their hours would be, but you might find that information by Googling for their website.

Oops, I should have seperated the name from the address. The Catedral de Santa Maria is the church. Calle Dormitaleria 3 is the street address. Sorry.

I would suggest the following....

If you have ever used Skype, buy $10. worth of Skype credit and call the albergue tomorrow. (This credit will enable you to call home during your camino very economically, although Facetime and WhatApp are free and thus thus even cheaper. Good wifi connection required.) Yes, there may be a language problem, but you may get the answers you are looking for.... can you stay the night if you arrive about 9PM (their time) and get your passport in the morning?

If you cannot stay at the albergue, confirm that you can get your passport there the next morning and book a hotel room. I arrived in the morning and the albergue was closed when I tried to get passport there some years ago and based on that, I would want to know at what hours early in the morning that a passport can be purchased.

Lastly, take a cab to the place you'll be staying. Yes, a few $$$ more, but a relief when arriving at night in a strange city.

All of the above is intended to relieve stress. Very important if you are flying from the US and heading directly to Pamplona by train or bus.

The bus station is close to the main part of town where the albergues, pensiones etc are. You can easily walk to them. Do you have a guidebook? The guidebooks have inset maps of Pamplona showing the proximity of the bus station to the albergues.
Even if you end up staying in private accommodations that night, you should be able to obtain a pilgrim's passport the next morning.
Attached is a photo of the Pamplona map from the Brierley guidebook. The bus station is indicated on that map by a symbol of a bus. Just to the right of it you see the actual Camino path through town. Simply exit the bus station, go to the Camino and backtrack to where you want to stay.

Thank you everyone for input. I was able to google the Albergue and get all of information I need between the Alburgue web site and google translator.

And Facetime and WhatsApp require that the other party also have the same app, and can't be used with landlines. That's why using Skype or Viber apps, and buying a bit of credit enable you to call any phone, anywhere.

It was a long time age and I used Skype directly from my laptop, I took. I am pretty sure you can make a call from smartphone I am taking. I try getting some help on this topic from Skype home page and was unsuccessful. If anyone know how this is done from a smartphone your advice would be appreciated. I am taking my phone to run apps but not planning on buying a SIM card.

Try downloading the Viber app. I find it very easy to use, and usually buy $5 worth of Viber credit which lasts me much longer than one Camino. I use it to call my husband at his office and to call albergues to make reservations. When you use Viber credit calls only cost 2 cents a minute.

This time of year I doubt highly you will need to make reservations beforehand at any albergues, so having a local SIM in your phone for that is not a necessity. Your main concern in that department will be locating open albergues (mostly in the smaller towns/villages). Many shut down until around March/April.
