Crazy Chicken Lady with the Camino on my Mind!
Time of past OR future Camino
Apr-Jun 2009 - I solo walked from Roncesvalles to Santiago. I hope to return as a hospitalera in 2016.
Some of you may find this blog (see link below) interesting. The family of 3 uses travel as a way to school their young daughter (Mozart). The current post and photos pertain to their experiences in Santiago de Compostela...there are other posts from around Spain too.

Pint-sized Pilgrim's Joy In Learning - By Soul Travelers III
How do you teach a child about Santiago de Compostela and the famous pilgrimage that people have been doing for centuries? We like Mozart to get a real sense of history as we roam, so are always looking for ways to make it come more ...

What a wonderful website Ginny - thanks for sharing.

If anyone is interested in links to children on the camino, here are a few to keep on record.

"El Camino de Santiago. La Ruta Xacobea Paso a Paso". (The Way of Sanitago, the Xacobean Route, Step by Step) is a lovely French documentary that focuses on the pilgrims' experiences, reasons for undertaking the pilgrimage, and spiritual changes. It shows some ingenious creations such as carts for children fashioned from mountain bicycle wheels. The documentary, is available only in French and Spanish. It is distributed by DVD Spain: http://www.dvdspain.net

Chimenti, Wayne (2006) El Camino de Santiago: Rites of Passage. Trafford Publishing. ISBN-13: 978-1412056380. El Camino de Santiago: Rites of Passage is about the Chimenti family's travels on a 500-mile walking pilgrimage. It started as Nahja, their 12-year old daughter's "rite of passage". It turned out to be a test for everyone.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I just discovered this. We are 3 years into our open ended world tour as a family & have been to 4 continents & 29 countries, but have spent most of our time in Spain as we winter here.

We loved our time at Santiago de Compostela and in Galicia this summer!

Here is the direct link to our post on Santiago and how we used it as an educational experience for our child:

http://www.soultravelers3.com/2008/09/pint-sized-pilg.html

And the Youtube video about the experience:

We have many more on Santiago, Galicia, Northern Spain and more. Just put key words into our google search on our site to aid you on finding any area that interests you.
