Tattva Hostel, 17 euro, with decent breakfast, 3-5 min from train station Sao Bento, view to Catedrale Se (2min walk to Catedrale)
Rua do Cativo 26-28 , phone# 351 220 944 622 -- The offer female, male or co-ed dorms (8 beds max) Very friendly/helpful staff, Wifi, laundry services, good kitchen to use on ground-floor, etc

Took bus to Matasinho - then walked across bridge, and then up along the Atlantic, often on wooden board-walk. At later part of walk, the Yellow Arrows were in error often and misguided us (local pranksters?) - as a result we walked almost 27km...
Vila Do Conde:
O Manco D’Areira - @ Praca da Republica 25 euros per bed in a 3 single-bed-room which i shared with 2 other pilgrims, private bath, wifi, breakfast (ahem, included in price, but not worth it) Great view onto river. Can not recommend this location on Friday&Saturday nights. VERY noisy until 3-4 am with people partying (read: heavy drinking) in the park in front of hotel/restaurants.

3 rooms, private bath-tub baths. i paid 60euros of a large double room with a large tub and the hottest bath water in all of Portugal - which i sorely needed after being drenched for several days and feeling rather cranky enjoyed breakfast in a very old-stylish room. Kind hosts; for e.g. they provided 2 hot water bottles because it simply was so bloody cold, in spite of late May season. Nice gardens, pool ... which of course i did not use. no wifi. - At tourist office one can use free wifi.

stayed in a private place on right-hand side of street, approx 30meters after the Albergue. Owner called Maria. Most kind woman. Three rooms, one bath, kitchen, living room. Very clean. 15 euros with simple breakfast. (had hot milk and cookies) Great view across valley. No wifi. restaurant short walk down the hill, on right hand side.

Pension Cabalo Furado - Seijas, 3 -2 , Tui 30euros, private bath, Wifi, no breakfast, very close to cathedral. Stayed there because I was not allowed @ albergue (because I stayed in Valenca Albergue the night before, and no pilgrims are allowed in hostels if they have walked less than 8km)

I add one address to it . I noticed Claudia aka Amorfati1 hasn't been there -a pity Claudia ! - it is the must be on the entire caminho Portuges. Between Barcelos and Ponte de Lima Casa da Fernanda. In Vitorino dos Piães. You sleep in a gardenhouse of a privat family with up to 18 or 20 pilgrims a day Hot showers., no bunk beds, lunch, common diner, wine and breakfast all donativo !
The real camino atmosphere you only meet in Spanish albergues on the camino Francès. My wife and I have been there 3 times and every time it was great to stay there. next year May my wife and I are going to walk the caminho Portuges along the coast but we start at casa da Fernanda definitively.

It was snowing here yesterday and freezing cold here in western Europe.

Uma amiga querida who lives in Hayward CA told me like you she was sitting in her garden just yesterday. So I get sentimentos de saudade para volver a Portugal. Sunshine and warmth.
I count down....three month and a half and the camino will be there, God willing.

good morning - I suppose you refer to Casa Fernanda?!
I would give them a call a few days ahead of time.
BTW: this is a private home, not an official business of any sort. Both Fernanda and Jacinto have many years ago opened their home to pilgrims (long, heartfelt story). Eventually they even built a wooden cottage to accommodate some more pilgrims. it's entirely on donativo - and one can only pray that it's never taken advantage off - plus they cook 3 meals a day , every day. and never ask for anything $$$ wise.
to me it has been a heartfelt place because it brings the pilgrim spirit together with the spirit of the people of lived along those ancient pilgrim routes for centuries and are an equal /as much part of this fabric of pilgrimage as the people who walk the path.
