Planning for April 2024

Time of past OR future Camino
2024 - by bike
I’m starting to plan for next year as this year is already booked.

I’m thinking the 2 weeks before Easter and starting in Burgos cycling with a friend.

What’s the weather normally like in April and anyone any thoughts on how busy it may be.

Many thanks /

Take a look at the monthly figures the Pilgrim Office has compiled for this year, for the Frances, over what the Spaniards call Semana Santa (Holy Week). The Camino won't be shoulder to shoulder, but it will be more crowded/ harder to find budget accommodation, the closer you get to Easter.

Weather I can't say from personal experience, though there are websites with that historical information. Could be cool and rainy....

Expect Spring on the low bits, Winter on the high bits and busier the closer you get to Santiago and Easter

There is some useful information in this post but it also contains a misunderstanding that seems to get repeated over again without thought.

The Pilgrim Office collect and report numbers of Compostelas issued. Essentially they are counting the number of people finishing a Camino (ignore those who walk and don't seek a Compostela).

There are indeed greater numbers of pilgrims who start during and around Easter but the Pilgrim Office numbers don't accurately reflect that directly because there is a delay between starting and finishing.
