Flights are purchased from St. Louis, MO to Biarritz! I arrive in Paris CDG at 6am on a Saturday in late summer. I understand there is a shuttle to take me from CDG to ORY where I will catch my flight to Biarritz at 11:20am arriving at 12:35pm. That gives me 5 hours to get through customs, take the shuttle and catch my flight. Enough time?

At this point I only have 60 km to get to SJPDP! Trying to decide if I should get a hotel there close to the sea or go ahead and make my way to SJPDP and book a hotel there to get up early and start my pilgrimage.

Any suggestions? Nice place to stay? Something awesome to see?

You can indeed take a bus from Paris CDG airport to Orly. Here is a handy guide in English from easycdg.com covering all types of Paris airport ground transportation. The simplest route is via an Air France bus. For further info open the handy guide and click Air France buses.

Air France Shuttle bus CDG to Orly is 1:15 plus 0:30 wait between buses. Travel time subject to traffic congestion.

RER (B4) train and Orly Val train (from station Antony) is 1:30. RER train leaves CDG every 5 - 8 minutes.

I'd allow at least an hour and a half for check in and security at Orly.

So travel and check-in add up to 3 - 3:30 hours. That leaves 1:50 for landing, deboarding, luggage, customs and orientation.

By my time appreciation 5:20 hours is a bit tight but it should be enough. I'd recommend map recce of airports and shuttle transport before travel so no time lost on orientation.

If I were you I'd go on from Biarritz to SJPdP. There are two trains you should be able to catch from Gare de Bayonne. SJPdP is a nice enough place to recover from jet lag.

Ahhhh .. depends where your heart is at the time! Will you be all fevered to get on the Camino? If so then walking round the Louvre won't really cut it for you ... French trains are really pleasant and comfortable, you can snooze on them ... for me it would be to get south as soon as possible .. but I only live across the channel and can visit Paris whenever I would want to (I don't) - if you think you may not get the chance again and you have plenty of time maybe you should take in the sights - but be aware that you may not be able to concentrate!!!
