I don't really like the town, the tinseled "Templar" fortress, the walkout but can't seem to plan myself past it without stopping. Three times I have stayed at Saint Nicolas de Flue-small rooms for four people, once with three young Korean girls who were so frightened by my presence that I asked to be moved, once with a Polish pilgrim, a nice enough man but who's countenance frightened the rest of us, he also only spoke in guttural groans, and once there was an American woman who snored like a sawmill. Three strikes and you are out so does anyone have another place for accommodation, a pension or 1* hotel to recommend?

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-

Maybe it's just you :)

Scruffy please check out gronze.com re accommodations in Ponferrada. There's another albergue (Alea) which accepts reservations and a few Hostals/Hotels through booking.com website. Hope this helps.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
If you are walking to Ponferrada from El Acebo or Molinaseco try El Val only 1 k off route. The hacienda was wonderful November 2014.

Albergue Alea is wonderful. I'd highly recommend the meal too

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Look's stunning, how does one get there please ?
Click the hot link above to the El Val web. The hacienda is located in Salas de los Barios off the CF between Molinasecca and Campos. Call Jorge the hospitalero owner at the number listed on the web. He will arrange to meet/greet you. He offers fine albergue dorms as well as private accommodation. Tours to Las Medulas nearby Roman gold mines can also be arranged. All is SPLENDID!

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Ponferrada isn't my favorite either. I usually stay in Molinaseca and then walk to Pieros - or to Villafranca where I love La Piedra.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

If in Villafranca del Bierzo you wish a bit of private comfort and/or a very good reasonably priced meal with delicious local wine do stop at the Hostal de la Puerta del Perdon. Located on the CF opposite the castle it is a VERY comfortable stop especially on a cold early winter night.

In Villafranca or in Ponferrada?

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
It is in Villafranca del Bierzo. Since you mentioned Villafranca and the La Piedra albergue in your above post I added the info here.

You know, all these years I've walked the Camino and I never knew there was a castle in Villafranca?
