I leave for my camino (I'm all anticipation and nerves!) in _five_ days. I arrive in Porto on Friday night. Does anyone have any recommendation for a lovely place to stay, possibly for two nights, as I get my bearings and explore Porto prior to launching into my camino? I'm not a rich person so budget is top of mind -- willing to splurge if worthy. Thank you in advance!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Olá,
many pilgrims stay at Porto Wine Hostel, Pensão França or Pensõa Duas Nações. All in the internet. They are around the final stop of the airport bus 601. Timetable: http://www.stcp.pt/fotos/horarios/601/volta/601_volta_aept1.pdf

Only 3 - 4 minutes walk from the final stop to these pensões. Many cafes around for breakfast.

Thank you, all, for your suggestions! I'm getting in late evening and want to find a place easily accessible by public transport.

I liked Porto Invictus between metrostations Alisteo and Trindade. Nice people, not expensive and a good breakfast buffet

Forget Duas Naçoes. Very bad, filthy noisy. Bad value for money.
We got a room without windows, all night people were coming and going ,talking loud and stamping their feet on bare wooden stairs. After one night we moved to a far better place in Matosinhos. Never again to Duas Naçoes. It is a shame Brierley mentions this awfull place in his guide.

Thanks! It's useful to know that about Brierley...

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I stayed in Best Guest Hostel and thought it was one of the best hostels I've stayed in anywhere! Ever!

Thank you, all! I have a temporary reservation for Alive hostel and Republica Prime (much cheaper). Booking.com just sent me a notification of $25 off for me and a "friend" if one of you would like me to send you the link:

We hope you have a great time! To make it even better, you're on your way to receiving a US$25 reward when you check out.

Now that you booked, why not earn a little extra spending money for your trip? Refer your friends and you'll get another US$25 every time one of them books and stays, up to US$250! They'll get US$25, too.

I used booking.com and will be staying in Ribeira do Porto Hotel. Arrive May 30 start walking June 3rd.
Location is steps from the Douro River with breakfast. Cost for 3 nights for my daughter and I 315.00E.
Having been to Porto in 2015 I can attest to the location as prime. Absolutely everything is within walking distance including the Port Houses in Villanova.
In 2015 I stayed at Hotel la Bolsa. Nice friendly hotel, also in prime location.

Hi, Has anyone stayed in Armenteira recently? I’ve contacted Victor the Taxi to try and reserve a bunk at the Slbuergue de peregrinos. He told me to contact “ Albergue de San Ero de Armenteira”...
