I walked the Camino Frances in October-November and was ok with just long sleeve base layer, a fleece and a rain jacket (not insulated). I’m planning to walk the Portuguese in April and my question is will those same layers be ok or will I need a lightweight down jacket too? Thanks in advance and buen Camino.

If you were OK with that in Galicia Oct-Nov, and you start from Oporto in April, yes. Should be enough. But I would make sure I had a good rain jacket. If you are not sure and want to minimise the load, how about an extra long sleeve base layer a size bigger so you could wear one on top of the other if it does get too cold?

Thanks, that’s a great idea. Thank you.

Definitely be prepared for rain … it may or may not happen! One year … 9 days of rain , last year never put on my rain jacket

Hi
I walked Porto to SDC Costal in April 2019. The temperature was fine and I had a short sleeved base layer, long sleeved Duoskin and waterproof jacket. The rain gear was vital as when the storms came in off the Atlantic they were torrential. However the good days were really beautiful.
Buen Camino
