Porto to Santiago

A selection of Camino Jewellery
Hi Jamesdouglas - pilgrims are arriving in Santiago from Oporto but not as yet in great nukbers. That being said there have been some largish groups on the route. That isn't something you can predict. If you find it particularly busy you could hold back or walk forward alonger etapa.

Let us know how you get on please.

Buen Camino

Just wondering how busy the route is as I'm leaving on Sat.

I was on the Caminho Portuguese (starting from Porto) from April 16 through May 11. Very few on the trail in Portugal, a few more once I entered Galicia, but nothing was crowded. Mostly I stayed in hotels, no reservations except for Santiago and no problems. The two nights I spent in albergues they were not full, and others I met had no problems finding space at the albergues.

Santiago was quite a shock after encountering so few others on the Caminho Portuguese.

I just walked it this year, from mid April to May 11. Wonderful weather most of the way -- no rain, no extreme heat, perfect trekking temperatures, often enough cloud cover to take the bite out of the sun. There is a lot of shade along the route. Most of the steeper segments are through forest. Cooler weather and rain my last three days, usually light rain, but a few short storms that I could usually wait out under a tree. My rain/cold gear consisted of a light rain jacket, a light parka, and a mid-weight fleece vest, which were sufficient.

my two sons and i leave porto next thursday- how are the conditions, it seems there has been a bit of rain, also a very dumb question, where do we get our credentials stamped en route? thanks tom

i started my walk from Porto in may , the 7th. in Portugal i walked alone!!!!! the whole way, only in Spain, from Tui didi i meet som e pilgrims, but it was not a problem in any albergue, not to find a bed to sleep. so till may , the 16th the portuguese route was not crowded at all. but it was raining almost every day. as a gift, in Santiago we had sunny days :)

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
