Porto to SdC, on to Muxía, September October

I have my plane tickets to walk from Porto starting the 25th of September. I think I will start with the coastal changing to the Central probably at Vila do Conde. Will there be other pilgrims this time of year? Will albergues be open? I would appreciate any advice about this. Thanks!!!

That sounds an excellent choice @Lmsundaze. From what I have read on this forum it would seem that this is a very popular time to walk. Others will direct you to albergue opening seasons. Bom Caminho!

I left Porto last September 15th on the Coastal route and at first there were few pilgrims and very few that spoke English. As I got closer to Santiago and after I joined the central route it kept getting busier and there started to be more English speaking pilgrims. It never got crowded though and it wasn't too hard to find Portuguese people who spoke English.

I will probably be about 3 weeks ahead of you this year and may be working in the Pilgrim Office in Santiago when you arrive. (I'm still waiting to hear back from them to confirm dates)

Quite a few Portuguese pilgrims as well as Polish, Italian, and Spanish. For the groups I met the Portuguese spoke English well, the Polish and Italians some English, and the Spanish none at all. We all got along great. Oh, I did meet three people from California too.

With English and Spanish you will do great. The Portuguese will prefer you to use English with olá, por favor, obrigada, bom dia, boa tarde, and boa noite where appropriate.

Four canadians ( 1 w + 3 m) speaking English or French will be 4 days ahead of you at that date walking from Lisboa to Muxia
