Portuguese Camino Books

Hi All, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for books on the Portuguese Camino?

I am not looking for a guide book, but a story of the authors Camino? I cant seem to find any? I have read a few on the French Camino and really enjoyed them. Camino Sunrise by Reginald Spittle, The Only Way Is West by Bradley Chermside and A Furness Full Of Gold by @Rebekah Scott (Excellent!).

Are there any recommendations out there for the Portuguese route? Thanks In advance.

I haven't seen many. One that I have on my Kindle is Northbound: 30 Days on the Camino Portugues, and onwards to Finisterre by Paul McGranaghan.

When I walked from Lisbon (only 1 percent of all pilgrims start there) I used the John Brierley Guide Book
-Camino Portugues -Lisbon-Porto-Santago which has both Central and Coastal Variant. Excellent maps - I would tear out the map each day an put in a Ziploc bag for easy access in my pocket.
Generally my experience was that the Portuguese route was flatter, the people friendlier, the language more lyrical and the food was way better than the French route I took the year before.
Stop in Tomar to check out the Templar Castle
See the Se Cathedral in Porto
In Alverca do Ribatejo (second day out of Lisbon) have lunch at Restaurant Voltar Ao Cais
Get the Roast Sucking Pig in Mealhada
Recommend private albergue O Ninho in Rubiae
Spoil yourself and stay at the Paradore in Tui
Bom Caminho!!!

Check out Kat Davis’ Portuguese Camino experience at her site. Followingthearrows.com. Her blog is very good, and her photos are wonderful. Kat Davis passed away on 28 February at the age of 39. What a loss!

I have just finished reading Northbound by Paul McGranaghan on my smartphone Kindle app, and I would recommend that people read it AFTER they have walked from Lisbon to Porto, otherwise it might put one off actually doing it.

Although I could relate to a lot of his experiences – road walking, dangerous traffic, very few pilgrims, etc – I’ve always enjoyed walking that route, and have had some very good experiences, usually concerning the local people along the way.

Googling for blogs written by pilgrims might be the best way to read up on peoples’ experiences. Here is one to get you started:
