Portuguese Central from Vila do Conde to Rates

I would like to take the alternate route (is there such a thing) from VdC to Rates, not via Arcos. Please could someone point me in the right direction. I would be leaving from the VdC metro station.
Thank you.

Hi Frank,

There's a decent bit of info in this thread which includes a KMZ file to follow.

https://www.caminodesantiago.me/com...o-rates-river-or-aqueduct.74203/#post-1037497

Basically there's two routes - the river route and the aqueduct route.

I followed the acqueduct route earlier this month using the KMZ file in the thread.

It was fine, quiet roads etc and only one part I didn't like because it was more or less a flooded mud track due to heavy rain. I've noted in the thread where that began and how to avoid it in wet weather.

Hope this helps

Phil

Hi Frank,

I took the same route. Please find my GPX file with the whole track to Rates ;-). Although it starts in Labruge, you can use it from where you start. Buen Camino!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Last time I walked the Brierley book said you should no longer take the via-duct route. I’m can’t remember exactly why. I’m glad to hear that someone has been able to do it recently as the road is dangerous to me. I would cab over if the only option is the road.

Thank you so much, Phil

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I walked from Vila do Conde to Rates using the Brierley guidebook in 2017. As you walk into VdeC turn right at the Convent & walk along the river. No problem, walked it in one day.
