If you are interested in old ships and maritme history be sure to visit Viana do Castelo and the Gil Eannes, a cod fishermen's hospital ship which often sailed to Newfoundland. Now restored and moored she still displays poignant memories.

Yes I was impressed that the fishers had to leave so far home to fish, and in Viana there is a new hostel up the hill. We stayed in an old convent, but the new one was supposed to be great. According to my Fellow pilgrims.
