Possible daily cost of Camino Frances, single traveler, 9/2024

I realize this has been discussed in different ways...apologies for redundancy. I might have to economize in some ways
when I finally do the Camino Frances, if not Sept 2024 it will be Sept 2025. Requesting feedback from veteran pilgrims.
I realize fees will go up by next year. Just need a reality check for planning.
What is a reasonable daily budget for single traveler, mostly vegetarian, pescaterian? I am planning to bring my own heating element for coffee and tea, prepare own meals from mercados, dine out once daily, non pilgrim meal, stay in private rooms only in simple hotels, gites, inns, unless one of the private rooms in albergues is available, and do own laundry, for one month?

Your biggest daily expense, which will come as no surprise, will be your nightly accommodations. As you’ll be looking at private rooms, your expense will be significantly more than a charge for a bed in an albergue municipal or private. Prices vary greatly in private accommodations. I would suggest that you go on a site like Gronze.com and explore accommodations at your possible nightly destinations. Whether traveling solo or with another, what you’ll find at inns, hostels, hotels, gites, etc. is a room price. From Gronze, you’ll get a good sense as to what might be considered an average price you’ll pay and you’ll be better able to plan from there. As private rooms may get taken quickly in some locations, and if you’re interested in places due to price, you may want to consider if making reservations would be best for you. Buen Camino!

If you go for private accomodation I would not budget below 50€/day. Despite cooking/preparing drinks by yourself. Cooking will also be limited in many of those places.

If you go with albergues, I would say 30€/day. I have often enjoyed making shared dinners/costs with other pilgrims in albergues, at a cost of 4-7€ including wine,

I should also say, that if you plan your evenings/nights alone in a private room, you will miss out on the cameraderie/friendship/shared meals with other pilgrim you hopefully will connect with on your way. This may be a big addon value to your Camino. I have made several life-long friends in these circumstances.

I stayed in quite a few private rooms on the Francés this year. The costs were about 30€ to 45€ for a single private room. Usually with private bath, but sometimes shared. I would add about 20€ to that for food.

If you plan to do social dinners, you will most likely have to stay in albergues, not private places. Money saved, that can be used on cold beers.

You can gather a group together to dine with without staying in albergues, but organized "communal dinners" will only be found in albergues. However, many albergues have private rooms in addition to dorms.

Private rooms unless in an albergue will often not have a kitchen available. Albergues are self-contained and usually have what a pilgrim needs. Kitchen, showers, clothes washing facilities as well as a place to sleep.

Regardless of how much (or little) the rest if us budgeted if you are comfortably budgeting €100.00\day, you will be perfectly fine.

Me too. 30 easily on breakfast, dinner and beer. And I didn’t eat lunch and breakfast was bread and coffee.

I have pre-booked for the Frances, starting in mid-September of this year, and over 37 nights my average cost is just over 59 Euros/night for accommodation — a mix of albergues, hostals/hostels, pensions, and full-on hotels, and that includes the overnighting I'm forced to do at Paris after arrival and then Barcelona prior to leaving for home the next day. The four most expensive nights are Paris, SJPdP (that one surprised me a bit), Pamplona and Barcelona.

The above average may look like a lot to many of you, but I've been traveling Europe since the mid-90s, and I'm actually quite pleased at how "cheap" the accomms are, by and large. Hopefully that leaves me budget room for contingencies, those mainstays of our lives. ;-)

In 2018, my cost for 5 weeks averaged out 28/day. This year, I did 5 weeks with only a few more privados and my average went up to 54/day.
Everything cost more now.

$100Eu/day is more than enough, you will probably average 50-60.

I personally carry cash, most do not, I find it makes life more simple, spread it around but mostly in a money belt that NEVER leaves you, sleep with it, even in private room ( not like Golum's "my precious"), if into a routine of some caution it is of no issue. I carry not more than I can afford to lose.

My husband and I together never spent as much 100 euros in a day. We stayed in private double rooms and ate breakfast, dinner and some lunches in restaurants. If you are planning to prepare your own food, you would not often find kitchen facilities in private accommodation other than in albergues.

It will also depend on whether you are travelling alone or sharing accommodation. Quite often, though not always, it’s the same cost for a room for two as for one….
