hi everyone,

I would like to send off a duffel bag from Porto to Santiago and am wondering how much it costs to ship about 15kgs. I went to post office yesterday and he told me I had to bring in the bag to weight it. Anyone have an estimate?

Thanks! Melissa

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Hi Melissa, In April this year I mailed a box of my surplus stuff to Ivar to store in Santiago from Porto main post office. I didn't keep the receipt but I think that it cost about 17 euros to mail a box weighing no more than 10 kg. I bought the box from the post office - just pick one of a suitable size off the open display shelves while you are waiting for your ticket number to come up (expect quite a long wait) and when you get to the counter, you can ask the clerk to weigh your bag (allowing you to select a different capacity box if needed) before decanting your belongings into the postal box. The clerk will seal it and the parcel will be tracked for that amount. I found the staff to be super helpful and I am sure you will find the same. Bom Caminho!

I did exactly the same as you SEB in April. I sent a smaller bag on to Ivar consisting of Keen training shoes, an Osprey rucksac cover for flying and a complete set of clean clothes. I brought with me a heavy duty plastic postal bag and I printed out the postal address for Ivar together with my contact details and placed it all in a clear poly pocket. I wrapped gaffa tape round my walking poles and used this to secure the poly bag and plastic bag. My parcel cost 11 euro to send. Despite being unable to speak the language the staff were very helpful.
Took me about an hour to complete the transaction but that was because a lady in front wanted to send a large amount of avon in a brown paper bag that would have disintegrated if you breathed on it. the theatre of her stomping round the post office shouting and screaming took my mind off the wait. It took the intervention of the security man who got very angry to sort her out. Bom Caminho.

If the cost of mailing to Santiago is going to be so high for 15 kg it might be worth considering if it is cheaper to send two smaller boxes rather than the one very heavy parcel.
