Camino Frances (Planned)
Hello!

I will be walking El Camino Frances this summer and I was wondering how much $$ will a Sim Card that works both in France and Spain be? Where can I purchase one? And do they usually have both data and calls?

Thanks!

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
Check out the numerous threads and how prices vary depending on your needs

I saw Orange 30 Euros per month, unlimited data/text/calls... Less for less data text etc... i would google Orange, Vodaphone, and a couple other sim card providers (stick with big names that have locations in case you have an issue, which I never had in past uses in 2019 and 2017.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
I'm very happy with Vodafone in Spain. 15 euro for 50GB internet, 800 minutes calling time to the United States, unlimited calls in Spain. You get some internet and calls while in France (not exactly sure of the exact details).

No contract. When you are done, stop prepaying. Weird 28 day billing cycle but I deal with it. Prepaying the next billing cycle is easy. Texts are extra few cents per text (weird by U.S. standards).

I had excellent coverage on Via de Plata, Norte, and Levante (I had Yoigo before. Didn't work very well in the hinterlands. I didn't have a phone while on Camino Frances.). Vodafone does all the technical stuff for you at their local stores. Just make sure you have an unlocked GSM (non Verizon) phone. Easy peasey.

Apparently I had the same plan on the Via last month. It was great. Made me ashamed to be a Canadian, which is very hard to do. Vodaphone coverage was great with the exception of two or three places which made up less than 1% of the places I walked. Worked fine in Amsterdam too which means it would work in France too.

I have been using Vodafone on my last few caminos over Orange for only one reason as they both work really well. It is super easy to recharge on Vodafone. They send you a text message when you need to recharge. You click on the link and they have it in English also. Takes about a minute to recharge. A little easier than the Orange recharge. I used Vodafone when I walked the VDLP last October-December. I agree the service and coverage was excellent considering all those crowded big cities and stages I walked through ;) :)

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

It's a good idea to stand around in the store and test your SIM card. It's easier if you have a friend with you to help, but you can still send yourself an email, call the store clerk, have them call you, and make sure you can get on the internet. They should be able to help you in the store.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
