I am walking with brother/wife starting 18 May. We would like to start slow (10miles p/d) and build up our walking distances. We fly back from Santiago 6 June and would like a rest day in Lugo. Can anyone suggest stages and/or recommend places to stay along this route?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
What about something like the following? It starts a bit slower than you listed, but it is either slower or faster given the locations of available albergues. It then picks up the pace. There are a couple of challenging days in there (18+ miles) which might be more than you want. If you play around with this listing, though, you should be able to work something out suitable for you. It has a stage break at Lugo, which you mentioned. Total of 14 walking days. Have a great walk!

That's brilliant - thank you very much. Will study and seriously consider your suggestions

I love the above suggestions. Here's how we did it: Camino Primitivo. The rest stop in Lugo with the medieval fortifications there is very, very nice. You may also want to consider taking the short walk up the hill from Oviedo to see the UNESCO World Heritage churches at Naranco before you start your Camino. They are worth a visit. Also, if you take the Pola de Allande route, you will miss the best day, in my humble opinion, the grand ruined hospitals on the pass, built for medieval pilgrims. This we did for our day five. However you must be able to walk a bit more than 27 km to make that day. It's up to you. If you can do it, it will be glorious. But only if the weather is good. Ask the locals if they would advice the walk on that day. Also, make sure you know to see the neolithic standing stones behind the Hospital de Montouto that most folks miss. You can read about it on our day eight. You encounter it on the long climb out of Fonsagrada behind the hospital at the top of the pass. Castro is a wonderful place to see another neolithic settlement. There is so much history on this original pilgrimage route! May you have a lovely journey and find your own pace! Elle

Thank you Elle, appreciate your thoughts and sharing your experience. Great blog too

That is very helpful- thank you for your time and trouble. Going in June

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Just know that there isn't really such a thing as stages on any camino. On the stretch between Oviedo and Melide there are about 110 accommodations to sleep, and about the same amount on the last 50km stretch of the Frances. There are many possibilities like Stratophile and Elle showed, according to your needs at that moment.
Feel free! 😇

I would suggest going over The Hospitales instead of going through Pola de Allande. It's shorter distance and an easier altitude gain. Not to mention the views are gorgeous.

Thanks for suggestion. I have initially planned to go Pola de Allande route and sleep there, walking from Campiello and the next day walk to Berducedo. When you walked over The Hospitales, where did you start your walk from and end up staying the night and what distance was your walk in total? Concerned distance may be a challenge

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Campello to Berducedo 27km. But if you stay in Borres it’s 24km.
You can get all this info on Gronze.com and see options.

Same here, walked Campiello to Berducedo over Hospitales, beautiful!. My only problem was the steep, shaley descent at the end of the mountain but you will have that on both routes. be careful.

In Hospitales just on the Camino near Puerto del Palo there is a Roman gold mine called A Fana Freita
On the video is possible to see the camino.
After Grandas de Salime in Castro there is an archeological site with a museum of a preroman village (castro). On this site have been also found a luxurious Roman house where supossedly lived a person in charge of all the gold mines in the area.
The ethnographic museum in Grandas de Salime also deserves a visit.
