Hi, does anyone know if there are many places with rooms to rent that aren't listed in Brierleys or WisePilgrim? When we walked the Frances we sometimes found rooms to rent over bars and in our travels in other countries we've found private homes that rent out a room or two. We're in Porto tonight and looking at our options for tomorrow. For the distance we'd like to walk we find 1 donativo albergue and one hotel room for 60 euros. We'd sure like to find something closer to the middle of these 2 prices. So basically, what do you know about rooms to rent along the Porto to Santiago route that aren't in these two guides. Thanks!

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

€60,-

Hello
I walked the coastal route from Porto around to Caminha back in May/June. From memory there were plenty of small hotels and private rooms along the way but I am not sure of prices. There also seemed to be plenty from Tui northwards. I stayed mostly in albergues but I did get a couple of private rooms for Euro20-25 for a single. Bom Caminho. Mel

It's a good way to go yet but when you reach Valenca - the last stop before you cross over to Spain and enter Tui - there is the wonderful Portas do Sol in the the old fortress town. It is reasonably priced, has very nice private rooms (some with balconies overlooking the street), and luxurious bathrooms. The man who owns the place is a real gentleman. The details might be in the Brierley book, but phone ahead and book a room.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Simple solution, just leave 30 Euro as your donation for bed and breakfast in the donativo albergue. Buen Camino, SY

What a sensible suggestion SYates and especially if staying at Casa Fernanda. As they also provide a meal and drinks - and there are two of you - I would add some extra to the 30 euros and you will have the pleasure of having stayed at one of the most welcoming places on the Camino Portuguese. Oh, and they also have a private room but do telephone first to reserve a bed.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
