Proposal: Common virtual pilgrimage

¡Hola peregrinas y pereginos!

I would like to propose my idea due to the Covid-19 crisis and the impossibilities to do the camino in Spain recently.

I would like to invite the moderators (doing a great job!) to set up an area for virtual caminos. In this area we would have topics for each camino that reaches Santiago de Compostella (Frances, Norte, Portogues, Primitivo, ...) In these topics we would have threads for single steps of the apropriate camino. (E.g from SJPdP to Roncesvalles on the Frances as first step)

The users of this forum would then be invited to share little stories or memories , a nice image, funny encounters on this section of the way, ...) in this thread. Each step would be open for several days, then it would be closed for participation and the next one would be opened.

As a result we could "walk" the camino(s) in the upcoming weeks, while we have to stay at home, together, sharing some nice memories. What do you think about that?

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
to set up an area for virtual caminos
What do you think about that?
Good idea. I'm not sure that setting up a separate area is necessary (or simple). The way I view the forum posts each day is to go straight to "New Posts" so that I see all new posts in all forums and sub-forums. I never really look at how they are organized.

You can try doing something very similar on your own. I started a thread with a virtual walk on the Camino Sanabres, which is set up very much like you suggest, but with a single thread for the whole route. I write about my plans for the next day, ask a few questions, and people reply with their information and opinions about that stage. So far, I have walked 10 days from Zamora. Not too many people are responding to the thread, but there are 141 posts and over 2000 views.

If you chose a route and started a thread, people would probably join in. You would get more response if you pick a well-known route. But then you will have to keep walking every day, because readers are waiting for the next stage!

I like this idea and would be excited to participate in a Virtual Camino! I am not very proficient with technology, but I am willing to give it a shot. I am fortunate to live in a rural area with a variety of hiking trails, and my state (Nevada) governor has not banned outdoor hiking and walking, as long as social distancing measures are practiced. Beginning in late April, I hope to walk on my local trails every day to emulate the physical aspect of walking the Camino (without the backpack!). It would be fun to "pretend" that I am walking in Spain, and having the virtual camino to check in each morning and evening would add another dimension to my fantasy.
