Hi all,

Xacobeo (the entity that runs the public albergues in Galicia) has decided to increase the charge from €5 to €6 per pilgrim per night at the public albergues in Galicia starting May 1st 2013.

Buen Camino!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Still unbelievably affordable for a roof and a clean bed!
Yes, they are. And hot water, and mostly a decent kitchen as well. Cea was wonderfully warm after a wet day, and I was able to wash and dry my clothes out thoroughly. Ourense is in a great monastery building, and the others I stayed in were all excellent - amongst the best of the public albergues on the VdlP, and amongst the cheapest as well.

That's still great value. When I went hostelling around Italy in 1997 I remember paying at least 10-15 euros (or several thousand lire as it would have been back then) a night for bunks in hostels with fewer facilities.

It sure is and don´t forget hot shower is included in the price.;)
Buen Camino!

Still it has the best price for all the albergues during the vdlp and cf. xacobeo still has the most modern facilities with all amenities second to none.

A bargain, a bargain! But be aware that some of them actually assign you a specific bed and some smaller ones allow you to chose your own. I found out the hard way when I inadvertently settled into someone else's bed for the night. Oh, my!

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Whatever their price these Galicia albergues are a GREAT bargain. I have stayed in many on all my caminos. Slightly off the beaten track or at least not at one of the published 'official' halts these are run by the ACAG, ie the government of Galicia. Very well maintained and generally found in recently renovated historic buildings with original details, interesting roofs/ceilings, hot showers and good HEAT. Walking in late autumn or winter what BLISS it always is to arrive, open the door, greet the helpful hospitelero and step into surrounding warmth when tired, wet and chilled!

Ivar, is there a website that I can see the locations of the albergues? Thanks! :)

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
